Behind the Scenes at Christian Francis Roth

by jennine on October 14, 2009

Christian Francis Roth

If you are a reader of Wendy Brandes or the Francis NY blog, you’ve probably already seen the photos from the Francis SS10 Lookbook. But what you may not have noticed is the behind the scenes photos were taken by yours truly… me! Christian had seen my  photos from the studio visit last month and really wanted me to take the photos for the lookbook, but with the rain and the fact that I’m not very good with studio lights unless I have supervised help, I took the behind the scenes shots to capture the mood of the collection, which is fresh and playful, particularly in the spirit of spring. All in all the day went fantastically well, the model, Karol Marie was amazingly able to put on a happy face all throughout the shoot, which lasted about 9 hours.  I know for a fact that it is difficult because I have a hard time putting on a  happy face for my outfit shots which last about 20 minutes. Seriously, my fake smile sucks, and a pretend to think of something funny, well, it has to be REALLY funny.

It was really nice to see the collection in action, particularly since Christian has such a playful approach to design. I really loved the vintage inspired cuts and the vibrant colors, it’s such a far cry from the greyness that I seem to be stuck in lately. By the time spring rolls around I’ll be ready, I just know it. If you see something you like contact wendy at cfrnyc dot com for more information or to pre-order. Wait, you didn’t say anything about LUNCH! I kid, I kid. I particularly like the action shot of Christian at work on the one-shoulder dress. But I really love all of them. Karol Marie should be plotzing over that close-up portrait of her in one of the Lite-Brite dresses. That’s a dream photo.

You did such a lovely job, dear! While the Lookbook pictures show case the pieces nicely, I think yours really capture the playfulness of them, and the beautiful details.
