Victorian Beauties

Ah… how long can a girl go on about her hair? When I find out, I’ll let you know. I was thinking of going for the bob, until in my quest for hair styles, I came across this Victorian Hair essay by Michael Warner. It’s just beautiful the images he selected, and inspires me to try a more naturalistic attitude instead of trying to make it something its really not. Besides how cool is it to play with ribbons and flowers? Now I just need to find more flowers to clip in my hair….

  1. Ah, thanks for posting this. I’m always on the look-out for hair inspiration as I’m trying to grow my hair long. At the moment it’s collar-length on one side and short on the other (I went through an asymmetrical phase). These pictures just make me want to grow it long again! Ah, hair.

  4. Great post. What strikes me about this is how much the floral ornamentation and the swirling style of the hair resembles the furniture of the Victorian era. It’s amazing how common features of style can show up in such seemingly unrelated things as hair and furniture. Yet they’re not all unrelated when you think about it, even though this is the first time I have. Thanks!
