Leather Debate…

by jennine on July 18, 2007

Tonight, I stopped by one of my favorite shoppes, American Rag, and found an awesome 80′s green leather dress. It fit perfectly, buttersoft, true green, ruched leather. The sales lady said ‘I just tried it on half an hour ago, I love it, but I can’t wear it.’ I felt the same way.

Where can you wear a leather dress? I mean really? I want to… but… yeah, I can’t even really rock a leather jacket. I guess, I’m just not a leather person. Although, I really love Christopher Kane’s Leather minidresses are super hot. If only I had the dough. The dress on the right is designed by emerging designer Laura Dawson, (found on Style Scene) it’s cotton, and I love it too, the silhouette is similar, but the materials give them a completely different attitude.

the question is, “where CAN’T you wear a leather dress?” you can wear it anywhere you want. there are really no rules anymore! and leather’s just another “fabric”, so to speak.

yeah i know! the dress has been there for few months… maybe i’ll just get it, it can be worn as a coat too…

I can’t do leather jackets either - I don’t understand why but they just look so wrong on me.

maybe start slowly, i think you could rock a leather pencil skirt

yes…i have a leather pencil skirt from the gap of all places. it’s gotta be 8 years old, and the color is a great metallic pewter. it looks great with a crisp white shirt and stilettos.

I say go forth with the leather dress…tricia is right, leather is a fabric like any other…and most comfortable if cut in the right away. I’ll be donning leather dresses a-plenty this season!
