RGB:: Digital Style Guide

Today, Ambika at (into) The Fray, tagged me with the RGB Award… “Rockin’ Girl Blogger” it was so nice to hear her write why she liked this blog, and why she decided to tag me. Even more so, because I really enjoy reading her blog, as I do daily… And feel like she’s a friend I just haven’t met in person yet. It’s always nice to hear your friends like you!

In light of recent events, particularly with SFFW, the interview with SF Bay Guardian, I’ve been having to think about why blogging is so important. What fashion blogs have to offer that magazines don’t. The most obvious factor is that the human organic quality is much more apparent with blogs, when I’m reading a good blog, I feel like I’m listening to a stylish friend with an ‘inside scoop’. I think that’s why its so addicting, why I frequently visit well over 100 blogs on a regular basis. There are a few that have really changed the way I think about style… it was really hard to narrow it down, so I picked ones that update daily…

Style Bubble.
I read this every day. Susie has such a unique sense of style. Every day she writes not one, but several posts about designers, fashion trends, general musings, etc. She shows her experiments and research. It’s lovely to see the evolution, I think I love Style Bubble more now than when I first started reading over a year ago, she’s fantastic.

Style Bytes.
Back in London, I knew lots of Scandinavians, and I found their incredible sense of style so impressive. Out here in San Francisco, I don’t get in contact with them on a daily basis, and I feel like Agathe keeps me filled in on what’s going on there. I love how she she shares her finds and how she is an incredible bargainer, I’m one of those who gets a great deal of joy out of finding something, just as much as wearing it.
Bits & Bobbins.
I found Bits & Bobbins from wardrobe_remix. The online community of remixers have completely changed the way I approach style. I really enjoy Tricia Royal’s sense of style and craft, envy it rather… and I appreciate how she opens discussions about style and fashion which instigate a great deal of personal responses. Tricia gets us to open our thoughts on style in an open forum, and that’s really wonderful.

Please Don’t Feed the Models
I love this blog because, well, it’s candy, but it’s smart candy. Model Citizen is probably one of my favorite bloggers the way she opens discussion about the fashion industry in a tongue-in-cheek kind of manner. She’ll ask questions about drug use, and fashion crime scenes. It’s probably one of the only ways I keep in touch with the gossip… mostly because the only gossip magazines I read are the year-old Hello! in the break room.

Fashion & Art
Ah, lovely Mahret, because of her, I’m going to obsess over latex stockings until, well, I buy a pair. This look has stayed in my mind ever since I first laid eyes on it. The natural frilly top, with the fetish stockings… can you believe she rode her bike in these? Holy moly! Anyway, Fashion & Art about just what it says… She does a great job of letting us know what’s going on in the German style scene, one that’s continually proving to be the place to look for emerging talent.

Picky Picks pics
While we’re on the topic of stylish Germans, Picky Pick pics The_KITTEN is a wonderful service to us bloggers, she searches the internet for stylish eye candy, mostly from street style blogs, but, oh my, she’s even picked me a few times! Of course, she has wonderful taste! But I sometimes in the sea of images, she really has a way of picking the one image that suits the day. I love that, plus she helps to find which street style blogs to keep an eye on…

Shiny Squirrel
If you are on the look out for smaller design houses, and looking for good taste, Jessica at Shiny Squirrel is the place to look. I am amazed on how she can find so many great designers on a daily basis. She’s opening a boutique in a couple of months, oh my, my bank account is lucky she’s not in San Francisco.

Coquette
And last but not least, is Coquette. I like to call Natalie Zee my Fairy Blog Mother. She’s been so supportive of me since the very beginning and continues to be an inspiration for me. She’s such an inspiration both professionally, and she has one heck of blog, how she keeps up I have no idea, but I love looking at all the little finds she posts… It keeps me in the know.

These are just the blogs that update daily (and run by women… Face Hunter and The Sartorialist are two that are run by dudes), there are a great many wonderful blogs that are less frequently updated but I love dearly, Bobble Bee, High Fashion Girl and La Femme. But they are probably more well rounded than us compulsive post-every-day sickos.

  10. OMG just found this. Shame on me. I have to get back home asap I somehow got stuck at my parent’s and don’t take blogging that serious these days…

THANK YOU SOOOOO MUCH!!! I really love you! It’s so crazy to virtually meet so many nice people. It’s like a parallel world. I sometimes catch myself saying something like “that’s what my friend … from the internet said!” or “yes, I know here virtually pretty well…”. So it was kind of weired to stay at mary’s (stil in berlin) place in berlin or meet robert and luisa from style scout or the facehunter in person or the people from styleserver/aka bored&beautiful…
