Or Elizabethan Collar as veterinarians like to call it. I must say I never knew that’s what they called it until I tried to write this post. All though I would like to post pics of puppies and kittens with lampshades on their heads, this isn’t CuteOverload. (To my dismay) So, back to the human world, I’ve been noticing lots of ruffs or Elizabethan-like collars around, or the modern counterpart I like the more primitive term neck ruffle but I made that up, for my own lapse in vocabulary.
Do you ever get the feeling that some kind of critical mass of images is occurring and you just don’t know how to put it together? I found this illustrator, Sandra Suy on MySpace, who does these eloquent pencil on newsprint drawings, this one of a woman with a large ruff struck me. Then the other day Face Hunter posted yet another woman wearing a black minidress with a neck ruffle. I was smitten. All the sudden that crazy ruffle didn’t seem so costume-ish, and became very chic to me. I love the idea of covering my neck. It’s such a vulnerable part of the body, with the jugular, and nerves, and my throat and all… it just feels so cozy and safe to have it adorned in such a beautiful way. Recent posts about Rodarte and Chailie Ho both have delightful versions of the of the modern neck ruffle, and more examples include Chanel Couture, Lanvin, and Galliano.

i love the ruffle-y neck look (when it’s not too elizabethan!) but it’s hard for me to have something around my neck without feeling as though i’m being choked. the black dress posted by face hunter looks so comfy and choke-free, though!
Oh my gosh! I’m all about the ruffle here. (1) Got a sweater with a big ruffle earlier this summer (2) Love Queen Liz I and (3) My poor dog is wearing an Elizabethan collar right now!
aw puppy!
; )
I actually thought the pencil drawing was you, before I read the post.
i hate the shakespearen ruffle.. kinda… messy.. but i haf to admit lanvin’s collar looks pretty comfy!
forevergirl… you know one of my co-workers said the same thing! i don’t think we look alike at all… she’s gorgeous.
: )
so, i’ll take that as a compliment.
