Yesterday, I finally got the pair of black lamé leggings I’ve been wanting since, um F&Art first posted about her latex stockings. On my way home, I stopped off at LF (those ladies are soo nice!) on Union Street and took a look at their sale, ended up walking out with a pair of jeans, blouse, and shoes. Uh oh. this got me thinking about as I’m preparing for autumn, people are coming back from their summer vacations, Labor Day is just around the corner… What does my autumn wardrobe going to look like? Do I have cravings? Sure, we all do… but for now, I’m pretty happy with my looks for the season. This is my Summer/Autumn 2007 Transition Wardrobe. My color palette will be grey and blue/purple.
First off… tights/leggings. They are a neccesity in San Francisco… The breeze lasts all year around, so the collection of tights can get quite extensive.
Then below, are dresses. I have millions of dresses, but now I’m feeling that I want to layer them with tights, slips, tees, and the like, so right now, I’m just liking plain dresses I experiment with layers. (Oh my cats love to play with clothes, so don’t mind them)
My blouses, loose fitting, so they can be layered. I like patterns, a trick learned from Nan Kempner, have a short skirt, long skirt, trousers, and lots of tops. Also, one thing I love is ruffles, ties, and gathering.
I don’t wear jeans an awful lot, but yesterday I purchased a pair of corset-top skinny jeans, worn with a long vest, it creates some interesting lines, so as much as I hear high-waisted jeans are for mom’s… thank god, I’ve worked through my mom issues, because personally, I’m getting a lot of use out of my high-waisted jeans. (oh, that’s Stella)
Long sleeve tees and stripey tanks.
Skirts, I have a million of these… but for this autumn, I’m planning wearing my classics… a tweed mini, my grey pencil skirt (it’s almost 10 years old! yikes!) and a fun white floaty skirt.
And here are my shoes. I am always in the mood for more shoes… and these are but a fraction of my collection. But these are the shoes I predict are going to be the main staple of what I plan on wearing this season. I got these Italian riding boots on eBay, haven’t worn them yet, but I have a feeling they’ll come in handy.
And of course, this isn’t everything, but I’m just trying to get a feel for what I’d like to wear this year, so these are just the basic frame work for how I want to dress. Is this some kind of sick thinking? I don’t know… do any of you plan out this early for autumn? What are some pieces you are coveting?

Oooh, please model the corseted jeans for us! I have high waisted slacks, but not jeans. There is a HUGE difference between high waisted and mom jeans. It’s all in the cut, so I am really excited that they are coming into vogue because it means a big selection.
I made the list of the things I need for next season, about a month ago. I covet a good coat, a grey cashmere cardigan, a tote, a pair of chunky shoes, black pants, and a pair of black boots.
And why everybody is tempting me to buy a pair of black lamé leggings? (Just kidding) Show us your pic wearing them, please
If you’re sick for planning so far ahead, then we both are! I’ve been sewing and picking out, planning what pieces I want to buy that I can wear now and wear in to the rest of the year.
Two colors that my heart keeps pulling me towards are grey and peacock blue. This isn’t unusual, as grey’s one of my essentials, and I always feel a very strong draw to peacock colored things. But I’m thinking of ways to incorporate those in to more of my wardrobe, along with nude/flesh-tone. I don’t have a lot of it, but I think it’d be nice to experiment with.
One piece of clothing I’m anxious to try out is bloomers/knickers. Like the slightly poofy Victorian undergarment. I think they’d look great with the trapeze clothes that are in style, along with tights and sweater dresses in the winter.
I love seeing everything, but the nosy cats make it even better. Cute!
Your ensembles are wonderful in their chic tonality. Please do a picture of you wearing those white shoes!
Mothra
when can i borrow your clothes. oh and your shoes too!
those are beautiful fall colors that you’ve got there.
bill is gay!
Also, I’m glad to see my cat isn’t the only one with a fabric fetish
that looks like a great fall wardrobe so far.
i am coveting tights & leggings in crazy colors, wide-legged jeans, and tall, knee-height flat boots. i can’t seem to find any boots like that that fit into my budget though! only in the magazines..
I have planned past seasons around vague, oddball inspirations such as “hail contrasting stitching” and “my mom, 1971″.. I like to plan for autumn as I love boots! I have a loose knit, bargallo-patterned skirt in blues, browns and creams that is dying to come out and be worn with my trusty brown suede boots. I am an ex-San Franciscan now living in a sleepy SoCal town.. so I guess my autumnal oddball inspiration will be to dress in “Ideal Southern Californian”, whatever that means. Light-colored turtlenecks will come into play, as will big chunky vintage Navajo jewelry.
I **love** your blog, found it through the mighty fashioni.st!

Transitional wardrobes are the best idea.
And I was thinking, Hmmm, there’s a lot of fur in the wardrobe until I saw it was your gorgeous cats!
Duh!

I’m planning my fall wardrobe already as well, and excitedly anticipating wearing it. I’m usually most excited about summer style, but this year fall is really doing it for me. I want high-heeled brogues, over-the-knee socks, a plaid babydoll coat, and a houndstooth coat. Oh, and of course plenty of colored tights.
I would also love to see a pic of you in the corset-waist jeans…I’ve been thinking about getting a pair…
I think I’d love to see some closet shots. Really. I know it’s strange, but I like looking in other people’s closets — I guess to get a sense of their style. Is it one style or many? How do they sort and organize clothing — by size? By color? By type? Etc. Maybe you’ll indulge us one day…
oh my goodness! thank you for your lovely comments! i’m working on getting the model shots… and happy to hear, i’m not the only one who loves 1. highwaisted jeans and 2. nosy cats.
ashe romance: heh, peacock blue! such a lovely color!
gina… i don’t even let my closest friends see my closet. it’s a strange and personal neurosis.
: )
i don’t think it’s sick, i’m already thinking about my fall wardrobe as well. i don’t know which will be my favourite pieces yet, but i’m sewing some new things right now that could be new favourites. (: i will do a fall-post in my blog really soon, too.
oh, I started in early July, is that terrible? I’m on such a tight budget, and I knew I wanted some nice things for teaching this fall, so I’ve been sewing and stalking summer sales, just waiting for end-of-season clearance, where I snapped up things like a jacket (I don’t own a blazer), a silk blouse, some cute white patent shoes, a beret and a 30’s-feel houndstooth hat…
for fall (the season when I MOST miss the Northwest - I can’t layer ANYTHING here in socal, bah!) I’m longing for boots (same as every year), over-MY-knee socks (I’m tall. surprisingly difficult to manage), interesting cardigans, and maybe a proper dress that I could wear on an ordinary day.
I LOVE your palette - I’m also a big fan of greys, particularly that blue-slate colour of a stormy sky. And my siamese is just the same with clothes. I often find her sleeping in the mending basket =)
I am already planning! Going on a trip for 3 months this fall, so I have to plan ahead, with everything I want to wear being stuffed into two suitcases. Shoes included. Yikes!
