As we ponder

Oh Karl….

Speaking of Karl, less than a week away from the release of Lagerfeld Confidential, Jezebel posted a few great Karl quotes…

[Fashion industry jobs] aren’t jobs that fit any criterion of social justice. It’s like cinema. Lots of boys and girls want to do it, but very few make it. Sadly, Nicole Kidmans are thin on the ground. To do this job you must be able to accept injustice - the same goes for fashion. There are other careers. You can work for Social Security, get promoted and work behind a counter. It’s a safe bet. If you want social justice, be a civil servant. Fashion is ephemeral, dangerous and unfair.

  1. I love this man. He opens his mouth and out comes spun gold! This is why I am going to be him for Halloween. Haha.

  3. What an evocative and provocative comment to be made! As a person who works in the arts, mostly in non-profit arts, it’s interesting to hear the perspective from the for-profits side. Fashion, Film, the Arts, they aren’t fair industries at all, and despite their better intents, aren’t accessible (for whatever reasons) to all. What a bold move on his part to be so blunt and forward about it.

  5. He is right fashion jobs aren’t fair! but if you love fashion you suffer and keep it moving. You also try to make the small changes that you can. No one no matter what industry should allow certain things to go on and not try to change them for the future just because it has always been done that way doesn’t make it right!

  6. WOW! - (Gulp) That’s scary yet utterly candid. I’m still afraid of him.

  7. I saw this movie, it was not bad as documenatries go but I felt it much better suited for TV as opposed to cinema. One thing for sure, Lagerfeld is certainly a character.

  10. proof that he has gotten way old for his generation (as amazing as he is!), as in, fallen behind.. the world has changed quite a bit and is changing fast, everyday, in a very new direction, in one other than his.
ummm, a very simple example, stella mc cartney, anyone?
