Why is nerd love so strong these days? Nerd glasses, Superbad, Napoleon Dynamite, blogging. Sometimes I wonder if ever there were a person who just naturally woke up out of bed feeling like they could seriously conquer the world. Maybe Madonna, or the robots behind Google, but a good chunk of us mortals quietly identify with the beautiful loser. Perhaps its the hopefulness or sense of triumph or possibility, or our own innate desire for imperfection, no matter how much we say different.
Argentinian artist, Lala Ladcani has a way of embracing the a child like playfulness around loneliness and insufficiency. I always kind of smile and say ‘aaawww, poor little guy’ when I see these monsters. The artist herself writes to us:
My inspiration?
Nature is my main source of inspiration
To think about graphical interventions, or mixed with technological elements
I also like sad monsters, powerless, losers
How a monster lives his everyday life
I find it’s because there’s no further level to fall if you identify yourself with the loser….. doesn’t set you up with too much disappointment..!
loneliness, failure, powerless…you’ve just described how a modern man feels. Life is getting harder to live. As for businessmen well they follow trends and cash in on.
I love that video..thanks for sharing…and i prefer geek to nerd..
I like people who are truly themselves and don’t worry (too much) about what other people think.
I don’t think nerds (or geeks) are losers. I dig ‘em.

coming from the gal who spent her whole weekend trying to figure out php code.
The only loser is one who thinks there is a winner and a loser. Love the new look of your blog. The Coveted is not a loser.
yes, humble/awkward guys are so cool. i heart michael cera and the like because they’re interesting and lovely and generally aren’t cocky and are good at falling in love!
ps. i really love that drawing at the top.
Yeah, a new site. Love the wood! Thanks for commenting on my site btw, I’m honoured!
I completely admire your decision to want total control over your blog. I’ve been considering the same thing lately. If you don’t mind my asking, (perhaps you could just email the answer) what’s the best way to draw traffic to your blog? And also, is it really pricey having your own site?
