Fashion is lovely

Future Vintage: Stuff I found that’s kinda like what I saw on AW08’s runways…

It would be cynical to say that there are no original ideas. Of course there are tons, and we each appropriate clothing in our own way. Yes, it’s true. From my obsessive scouring and seeing what’s going on in New York Fashion week, I saw some pieces that reminded me of vintages that can be found on the internet…

Ok, so here we go… first off is Alexandre Herchcovitch… I love this little plaid mini dress with black shoulder pads… and this is what tipped me off, was the feather print pleated jacket which is the ‘Vintage Pick of the Week’. It also has black shoulder detailing and both of the items have lovely silhouettes.

Next is kind of a classic… it’s the Alexander Wang oversize tweed blazer. I found this vintage Valentino blazer for $128. Not bad… couple that with some wool tights, (and shorts… please don’t show your chocha) and you are good to go!

I’ve always been a big fan of peplums, and am truly sad, I’ve yet to come across one that really does me justice. But and this is up on my list once I get to Germany, is to get me a peplum cocktail dress. Abaeté made a gorgeous grey one, that’s extraordinarily classic… and I love it, but I also love the vintage counterpart in electric blue. There’s also one in black floating around eBay, but as I always say, when in doubt add more color (which is probably why I dress like a grown up Punky Brewster).

And last but certainly not least, is a little bit of a stretch… sort of, but hang in there… Alexander Wang, with the very Mad Maxy looking runway show did a had some great pieces, one that I noted was a jumper dress… worn with a beanie, white tee and holey pantyhose (that should be an easy diy project). Slouchy suspender shorts is a great little number… particularly for the summer, well, if you’re not in San Francisco.

Anyway… I hope this gives you some ideas… I know that my wheels were definitely turning, even though I’m trying to get rid of my stuff rather than collect more at the moment. It’s certainly nice to know what’s going to be in the stores come September, so it’s easier to plan what to purchase and what not to put in the charity bin or on the auction block.

  2. Hi Jennine - this bears no relation at all to the post, but I have started reading The Coveted recently and have been really enjoying it. I spent much of this afternoon reading through all your archives of ‘Today’s Attire’ (and as a side effect, not doing any work, but it was worth it!)… and it has been really interesting to see your style evolve over the months. You’re beautiful and your blog is beautiful too. :)
