Yesterday was my first venture out into everyday German life. It was cool, going to the market for the first time in a foreign country is always such a fun experience. Since I’m trying to learn how to speak German, I learned all kinds of new words walking around, it was nice. I also felt very vulnerable. Having to ask for what I need is difficult, and even though I know I’m not stupid, I feel stupid for not being able to communicate.
I’ve always felt that the experience of being a foreigner has humbled me in a way that nothing else has, and that was when I was living in England. Although most Germans speak English, even better than I do, the ones I met, are happy to talk to me. I shouldn’t worry, it’s a great experience.
Anyway…. back to clothes. I’d say it’s a winter wonderland outside, but it’s not winter. Being as I’m new to the snow, I’ve had to pull out some rather older classic items out of my suitcase. A thick woolen Paul Smith skirt, I wore through the London winters during my college years, the ski socks that have been attached to my legs since my arrival. All the grey and wool calls for some red details, a Marc Jacobs stud bracelet, and a vintage belt. Of course red lipstick… the classic is perfect for snowy days.

Sounds like Germany is treating you well!
Love the bangle! You look warm! Congrats on the safe move!
I’ve been a lurker for a long time in your Blog. I’ve kind of lost interest but perked up when I read a couple of posts ago that you were moving to Germany!
Now I am anticipating any posts of yours; it would be interesting if you could post pics/write articles on everyday German fashion.
If you don’t mind, where in Germany are you? Munich? Berlin? Frankfurt? Or ?
Thanks!
You look cute and and scarily energetic for someone who just moved!
I agree that living abroad is one of the most humbling experiences. But it’s also the most empowering because when you do figure out the tram system, how to ask for things, and what the local apertif is, you know just how far you’ve come.
You look adorable by the way.
congrats on the move! you are an inspiration!
that belt is super cute. love that buckle.
I find languages to place oneself in the msot ackward position and make you think even further into creative things and movements (insert anything here)
