Iris in the eyes…

by jennine on May 14, 2008

The haunting work of Iris Van Dongen so eloquently mixes the unreal beauty of fashion with the intuitive force of art.
Drawing from art history and contemporary culture, they tend to resemble classic works, it’s not until you look closer that you see modern details, like a skull scarf, that you realize that it’s a contemporary work. Many of the pastel drawings stand and impressive 240cm (over 7 feet) in height…

In this way the surroundings in the drawings of the ‘angels of death’ symbolizes her psyche, as a mirror of her soul, and seems to haunt her, even though she has resigned herself to the fact that it is she who is haunting herself. [source]

Oh my gosh these artworks are beautiful, they are both dark but really sexy and beautiful, a wonderful contrast. I love them, thank you for sharing :)
