Scherer Gonzalez: The Delicate Balance

by jennine on July 24, 2008

When I first cam across Scherer Gonzalez from the likes of F&Art and Style Bubble, and was truly quite taken by the costume-like bobble-y butts of and abstract boning Scherer Gonzalez. Part Wicked Queen, part cyber punk, and pure imagination is most captivating about them. In fact, it was the biggest reason as to why I wanted to see the show, the expectation that they would take this aesthetic to the next level, and excitement over where that would be.

This season, Scherer Gonzalez decided to appeal more to the masses than to the artful few who adored their work. While there are many people who decide to travel that road, it amazes me because only a few survive it’s tempting allure. The new spring collection was indeed wearable, but somehow uninspired. The pallets were black/white and pink/lime green and the fabrics were silky shiny but had no real special qualities. There were a few pieces that really captivated me, but alas, they were from the previous collection. In the end, what I was left with was the feeling that every creative person encounters at some point in their career, as to find that delicate balance between creating what you want and creating what puts food on the table.

I’m digging the light purple dress a lot. should I say light lavender colour? perfectly balanced not too ostentatious. It’s just right with interesting details.
I would wear that stripy skirt with the shiny tube. Interesting.

A little old fashioned, a little space age. I like it!

Also, a non-blogging friend at work visited your blog via my blogroll and asked me to tell you how much she likes it. I think she’s just a little non-internet (at least for this day and age!)

I have to agree with Meli - the shoes are beautiful! And I like the fashions, even if they are a bit less avant-garde than usual.
