Learning French isn’t so hard, as long as you don’t actually have to speak it. In reality, my French extends as far as introducing myself, and saying it’s nice to meet you. The rest… not so good. That said, I’ve been learning quite a bit from ebay.fr and my google translate widget. At first I needed the translation tool to get around, but since it’s a little iffy, and crashes a lot, nowadays, I can browse through the shoes, no problem. Why am I doing this? Well, for a few reasons 1. cheaper shipping than from the US 2. cheaper than ebay.co.uk 3. I like France.
While looking for inspiration of what to do for the upcoming autumn, it occurred to me that maybe I should start looking at European sites for inspiration, so I started out with vogue.fr… just to see how they did their runway section. If you’ve been to style.com, the US version, you might note that while the runway shots are a valuable resource, the trends section is absolutely maddening. I was overjoyed, with my little knowledge of French to be able to navigate through lookbooks of logically organized trends. No more aimlessly looking around for booties, they have an extensive section that’s very easy to find.
Needless to say, I spent a few hours yesterday going through all the shoes… and I must say that I wasn’t drawn to any dramatically different shoe, I’m a booties and ankle straps kind of girl… there are some really gorgeous shoes to draw inspiration from:
Booties
Chloe, Balenciaga, Peter Som
Heels
Stella McCartney, Giambattista Valli, Galliano

Oh how I *love* booties. They are so glam.
I love Balenciaga and the Peter Som shoes!
I wish I could find a pair of booties with a rubberized, untextured wedge, four inches in the back and slight platform in the front. I’ve given up on heels as a practicality and may finally retire my favorite booties, now going on six seasons.
I agree about eBay.uk. I used to do quite well there, until the dollar weakened. No need to pay twenty dollars to ship a lipstick to the US!
This hurts my heart! The economy is so ick over here, I can’t buy shoes, and looking at them just makes me want to weep…
I’m crazy about those Giambattista Valli’s, though maybe a few inches shorter on the height. (God, I’d be like, over 6′ in them!)
These are sooooo gorgeous - love the Chloes!
Oh I want to be my own sugardaddy so I can spoil my little self with those Giambattista Valli heels!
Plus, they’d make me look tall, which would be a novelty.
OMG shoe meltdown! i think we all need sugardaddies & sugarmamas & to sell out quickly & big… for MORE shoes!
suzanna… tell me about it! it’s bad enough i earn in dollars and live in euros… but the pound, it’s just too rich for my blood.
ashe… i am tying to save up for a pair of shoes for the first time in my life. following my dreams didn’t exactly lead me into pools of riches (yet)
carrie… those are fierce!
korka & swan… ooh that would be lovely.
Maybe there’s something to be said about following your dreams being worth more than a pool of riches?
Wow, you’re totally expanding my borders. I was wondering how pervasive this whole super-high-platform trend was!
these are rad. hey so normal to see even catwalk super models need some band-aids here and there, (top Right pict.) those giambattista are in my crazy day dreams. they remind me of an uber super fancy icing on a wedding cake
those stellas are beautiful (not what i would wear personally, but i know a picasso when i see one)
however i do find her prices ridiculous.
I’m having a total love affair with Giambattista Valli!
