Zoot Up & Show Up

by jennine on August 15, 2008

In a time where the future of fashion media can go in any number of directions, it’s always nice to see young magazines making their own way. Only in it’s 11th issue, Zoot just marches along to it’s very own edgy beat. When so many magazines are either struggling to appeal to the masses rehashing trend after trend, or attempting to be like the latest ‘hot magazine’ Zoot’s over the top spreads on luscious paper often play into the ridiculousness and beauty of the fashion fantasy.

Earlier this week, I was fortunate enough to have coffee with the editors Thomas and Andrea who were passing through town, I had written a few articles for them before, so it was great to meet them in person. And of course it was lovely to get my hands some of their back issues, as they’ve yet to distribute in San Francisco. I have to say that the issues were loaded with interesting pieces about emerging designers like Pamela Thompson, Manish Arora, Felippe Oliveira Baptista, and a few more I want to keep to myself just a little bit longer (sorry). This just might reignite up my magazine junkie addiction… at least now the inspiration won’t get lost in the back files of my mind.

Left: Bolero: Georges Chakra; Right: Dress: Felippe Oliveira Baptista

Left: Headdress: Moods of Norway; Right: Highwaisted shorts: Paule Ka

Left: Bikini: Modernist, Belt suit: Agent Provocateur; Right: Manish Arora

As you can see.. there’s a lot to go through in these magazines… I’m going to be quite busy.

If you thought the Manish Arora mask looked familiar, it’s because it’s worn by Kate Moss the cover of Interview Magazine.

I love the exposure you have given them! thanks : )
I remember the drawing post you had done earlier this year. I’m a magazine lover but, cant always afford to buy them all, though I have a few splurges and some that I just can never give up, like EYE.

Wow they are beautiful. I know that one day magazines and newspapers will be non existent but I just love flipping through magazines as opposed to reading them online. I often find them difficult to navigate and frustrating. I think they are safe for a while yet though! Great post :)
