Growing out my bangs is proving to be a pain the the arse. When I first got them last year, I felt sexy and they were certainly functional, covering some unsightly wrinkle between my eyes. But the bangs, they are a lot of work. Figuring out what to do with my coif has been a bit of a challenge, but there’s no question I’ve always been inspired by vintage hairstyles, the messy bouffant, Faye Dunaway’s finger wave, and now I’ve been noticing a few women taking cues from 1930′s post-flapper pincurls. On Hel Looks, I stopped in my scrolling tracks to notice one of my flickr faves, Pilski, gone to town in an Ivana Helsinki dress and a gorgeous curly cue coif. While I couldn’t be as snowy white as she, the next pic had a more relaxed look mixed with baggy tartan trousers… hey hey, more my style. Lately I’ve been experimenting with pincurls myself… and it’s a lot easier than rollers, and curling irons for sure… but I’ve yet to master this look.

i love those 2 photos! i’ve got them saved in my inspiration photo file. =)
pin curls fascinate me. they look so chic but difficult to do. =/ i should google a youtube how-to video!
Some tips on how to do them might make this post in any way useful.
My bangs are super long right now too. I usually do a little roll like the first girl (whom I love by the way!).
Make headbands your friend!
Even if I had enough hair, I would never be adept enough to achieve one of those awesome ‘dos. I can barely dry my hair. Which is weird because I used to spend hours on it as a teenager. Adolescent hormones make you crazy, I guess.
the one on the left is Heini (piksi) from flickr! She has changed so much, improved her style..just fantastic!!
I love this kind of detail and the old pic you choose!
oh yes, as soon as i figure out how to do this, i’ll post a tutorial right away!
I’d love to know how to do these including the whole hairstyle, not just the front. I have long hair and new bangs but no clue how to style them!
Blame a short-haired childhood.
Thanks
Poochie

these two photos are soo inspiring! i love them
I love them! Both hairstyles!
Are they going to be as much of a pain as bang up-keep though? How do you achieve this look? Do a how-to!!!
I’ve always wanted to do that style with my hair, but have no idea how! Those photos are lovely!
nicole… what lovely curls! it must help to have natually curly hair…
market… i’ll let you know. but i must say today i gave it a go, and it took some time, but not an obnoxious amount, and it stayed in place all through the day which is more than i can say for the bangs.
poochie, i’m sure you’re doing a great job! long hair is fun for sure.
Yes yes, this is the best way to handle growing out bangs! Much better than the age old barrette. I finger waved my hair for a while when I was growing it out some, though it was never this perfectly coiffed.
Ladies, may I suggest you check out superkawaiimama@blogspot.com for the best fingercurl tutorial I’ve seen. After I watched her post I was obsessed with the rolls and have mastered a complete ‘do in about 5 minutes - fab!
oh yes, she almost made it into the post, but i wanted to keep it edited down. good eye!
i have absolutely no skill with doing hair or anything involving creating things with my hands.
i admire people that possess such talent
