Lucky 13 Vintage Holiday Dresses

by jennine on December 1, 2008

You’re probably thinking… where’s the red? Well… I do love red, probably, consistently more than any other color, but it’s not necessary to wear red to put on the holiday spirit. Then again, I wore blue to my last holiday party and some one asked me if I were Jewish. And what the heck, why not? L’chaim.

Deco Divas

I think this would be my first pic along the lines of how to dress up this holiday season… I love the swirling lines of the jazz age, and it’s really easy to do it up with sequins and beading without looking cheap… and what better way to incorporate feather head pieces into an ensemble?

1920′s sequined shrug (ends Dec. 03)
1980′s art deco ruched dress (ends Dec. 04)
1930′s black lace and sheer gown

Sexy Sequins

I tried looking at red sequin dresses, but red sequins are really difficult to do tastefully, I can’t seem to shake the whole Tootsie image and I’m not sure looking like Dustin Hoffman is a good thing.  I really do like sequins, but wearing them I feel there’s a fine line between hot and drag queen. Here’s a couple of nice little dresses that I liked…

80′s sequin, sheer AND fringe ruched party dress… you think it might be too much, but it’s perfect.
80′s sequin and sheer black party dress sweetheart neckline and asymmetrical deets
80′s black and white block sequin dress

Office Scandal

I’m not assuming that anyone has ever discussed my attire at the water cooler, but I wouldn’t be surprised if word got back to me that they did. I love the 80′s era of cut-out dresses, especially on the Moschino Couture Peace Dress, which doesn’t really look like a peace sign until you look at the back, the front has a sweetheart halter neckline .

80′s Black Lace Cut Out Dress

Festive Foxes

With all the Mad Men mania out there, what wouldn’t be more appropriate for 2008 than a bit of mid-century festivities? The smoking, the drinking, the knee grabs. Full skirts, taffeta, tiny waists and plenty of details…

40′s deep V beaded bow dress (ends Dec 05)
50′s western fringe rockabilly swing dress (ends Dec 07)
50′s green taffeta party dress  (ends Dec 04)
Rosie pink Joan wiggle dress (ends Dec 04) ooh, I can totally see Joan wearing this with red lipstick…

“80’s black and white block sequin dress” I heart it!

I think the gray sequin fringe dress is my favorite. The cut really captures a different kind of elegance that you don’t normally see.

Hilarious, because I was reaching for the red as I’m reading this! I’m in need of a holiday dress and I can’t resist the sequins either!

I like how you featured no red in your holiday dress post. The girl in the deep v bow dress reminds me of Mad Men Peggy!

My two favorites are the 80′s art deco ruched dress and the b&w block sequin one.

Oh I totally ♥ the blue one!
Love how there is no red although
I never wore red for xmas (big family party at the 24th) but I just might this year :)

Wow, thanks so much for including my dresses with all these wonderful ones!!! I’ve definitely been looking out for holiday party dresses too, even though I don’t have any parties to go to. That ’40s rhinestone heart dress is especially amazing.
