Diamonds are a girl’s best friend…

by jennine on December 15, 2008

About a year and some-odd months ago, Rocky and I went on our first date. We did the normal ‘getting to know you questions,’ when I asked what kind of work he did, he told me he was an industrial designer. What’s that? Well, he went on to describe some of the projects he was working on, including one of a ‘faceted cell phone’ to tell the truth, I couldn’t get my head around why anyone would want a phone with facets, but he said when we see it, we’ll want it.

A year and some months later, I was talking with Jordana at Clutch22 about smart phones, about how I was wanting to get an iPhone, and she mentioned she could arrange a review for the HTC Touch Diamond phone. It took some putting two and two together to realize that this is the phone Rocky had worked on, and of course I couldn’t say no.

Diamonds are a girl’s best friend, especially if they keep you in the loop.

The phone is beautiful, sleek black, and probably the most elegant phone I’ve seen. And for what it does it’s a normal size phone. The display is quite big, and the image quality is great. Because the design of the phone is so thin, the battery isn’t very big, so if you use it you’ll have to charge it up every night.

Even though HTC Touch uses the Windows Mobile Platform, which often requires using the pen (stylus) they’ve done a good job on using the touch technology. I use a Mac, so I’m not fully able to integrate all it’s features, but since I use Google for my mail, calendar, and RSS reader it wasn’t completely necessary. Though as a die-hard Mac user, I found going between the interfaces awkward, but certainly doable.

With this phone I was able to take snapshots with low light quite well, not SLR quality, but better than any phone I had. It also  has video, just in case I need that too.

The internet functions are quite flexible, it can connect to wireless LAN which is handy, if we’re downstairs and need to look up the rules for chess… it’s a nice experience to have the internet in your pocket, it displays websites quite well. In the beginning, it automatically connected to 3G, without asking, I had to go through three or four sub menus to turn that off.

All in all, it’s a lovely phone… as a blogger, it’s really comforting to have internet access on the go, especially since I keep all my appointments in Google Calendar, and also, being in Germany, I get lost a lot. Since I personally like to take pictures with my SLR and use photoshop, I can’t really use this phone for blogging like some people do, but I’m guessing as time progresses, I’ll get more savvy with this type of mobile device I won’t be able to live without.

For more information about this phone, check out cnet, one of my favorite technology review sites.

What a small, small world! I do love the faceted look, as it’s more intriguing that most phones.

And it’s great to read a review of a new phone…. I’m due for an upgrade soon, and can’t decide whether going the PDA route is worth the cost or a HUGE mistake ;D

Cute history!

I’m really passionate of mobile phones, companies designed them as an accessory.

My coolhunter boyfriend has given me this:

Shame on you Jennine for making me want more things! Just kidding, I’ve actually been keeping an eye out for a good blogger phone so this is now in the running.

That’s awesome that he worked on your future phone! That looks amazing! I have an iPhone, and though I’m partial to it, the Diamond seems awesome.

AND, you look fabulous!!!

❤ ashe… oh man i like having a pda, but i guess it boils down on how much you use it. i had an old razr that i could check my emails and make calendar appts in, but it’s not nearly as nice as this.
❤ cecile…oooh you are very lucky! do you like it?
❤ amy carriere… oops sorry, i was totally in the market for a new smart phone, so it’s a good one, i like it so far!
❤ beka, i know, it’s a nice story… but i don’t think it’s quite as nice as the iphone, as a mac person, i’m sure i’d be partial to it too…
