Showing Skin

by jennine on March 19, 2009

Earlier this week, I showed you Ayzit Bostan’s chains, blurring the line between clothing and jewelry, today is another example of lines being blurred, only here we have Maria Francesca Pepe’s AW09 collection where she leather and chains to create not quite accessory, and not quite garments. Bold shapes of cut out leather…

….she has touched on design ranging from art-deco to the garçon of 1920’s and the sharpness of late 1960’s lines. The silhouette has wide and straight masculine shoulders that emphasise the geometry of the lines whilst an unexpected softness of big falling folds mirror each other in the play of inversion. (via press release)

I particularly like the rawness, the balance between ultra heavy, polished with primal… somehow civilized in a post apocalyptic way, perhaps that’s more now than anything else.

I love the model who represents the collection’s mood very well. It looks very different from anything I’ve ever seen.

Wow they are great. I have been thinking about recycling some old leather jackets into necklaces. Some great ideas here.

hmmm leather…interesting… very nice pieces but the fact that they’re made out of leather makes me feel a bit uneasy. partially because I can imagine PETA (unrealistically) rolling in!

Shin - The model is Alice Dellal! Known for her badassery! :b
