Mother’s Day Beauty Gift Guide & Special Deals

I love shopping for Mother’s Day presents for my mom. I love to get her something special, to thank her for her kindness and generosity, for all she’s done for me throughout my life. It’s extra fun, because we share a love of beauty products. We spent so much time over the years at beauty counters, getting makeovers, and going to special beauty events. I always get her beauty stuff for Mother’s Day (which is a week from this Sunday). This year I’m also excited to get a Mother’s Day gift for a close friend who’s preggers for the first time.

If you’d like to give a mom some beauty treats, I have some ideas for you with some special deals to help save you money.

For New Moms and Moms-To-Be

For new and expecting moms, I highly recommend lovely, elegant Belli Skincare, which has Pregnancy, Motherhood, and Baby lines. The Motherhood Essentials Kit ($38.99) would delight most any new mom. It includes a well-rounded survival kit with Pure Comfort Nursing Cream, Eye Brightening Cream, Body Firming Serum and the Moisturizing Hand Sanitizer. It’s an incredibly good deal, considering that it includes a full-size eye cream that retails for $37.

For mothers-to-be, check out the Pregnancy Line. I’ve sampled and really like the refreshing, minty Skin Smoothing Body Exfoliator ($24), which is nice for anyone. It’s made with anti-oxidants and anti-inflammatory ingredients, like green tea, ginseng, and peppermint oil. Also be sure to take a look at their signature product and cult-fave Elasticity Belly Oil ($42). This gets rave reviews from moms and includes medically researched ingredients that have been proven to decrease the risk and severity of stretchmarks, including a blend of pure plant extracts, cocoa butter, lavender, and sweet almond oil.

All Belli Skincare has high standards for safety. For Belli Pregnancy, they screen out ingredients with even remote links to birth defects or other problems with pregnancy. Belli Motherhood is LactMed-screened to avoid ingredients linked to harmful effects during breastfeeding. And Belli Baby is screened for xenoestrogens—chemicals that can act like hormones that interfere with normal development of the reproductive system.

For Mom Who Love to Garden or Cook

So many moms are always busy with their hands – whether they’re gardening or cooking up something incredibly comforting – so I’m always drawn to hand-care goods. My mom  goes through hand cream like nobody’s business. The Body Shop has lots of really nice Mother’s Day gift sets, which are on sale online. The new Almond Oil Hand Caress Set ($25) immediately caught my eye. It includes Almond Oil Conditioning Hand Wash and the silky, long-lasting Almond Oil Daily Hand & Nail Cream, which are made with fragrant sweet almond oil and Community Trade shea butter, in a pretty, ceramic tray. Gift sets are on sale online; and The Body Shop will donate $1 to Stop Violence in the Home with each gift purchase.

Burt’s Bees also has lots of cute gift sets. Tips n’ Toes Hands & Feet Kit ($13) is jam-packed with wonderful, classic goodies for hands and feet, including Hand Salve, Banana Hand Crème, Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Crème, Lemon Butter Cuticle Crème, Peppermint Foot Lotion, Coconut Foot Crème in smaller sizes that are perfect for toting around in a purse. There’s also a pumice stone and a full-size Honey Lip Balm. They’re made with emollient cocoa butter, beeswax, vitamin-enriched oils, and botanical extracts, and smell so yummy and work so well.

For Bright, Cheery Moms

LUSH makes some of the most fun gift sets around. They’re so bright and cheerful and filled with some of the best smelling goodies around. The Mum Gift ($39.95) will make her feel like summer has arrived with its Yummy Yummy Yummy Shower Cream Wash (made with fresh strawberries and seriously smells yummy) and Lemony Flutter cuticle butter (made with a fresh lemon infusion and mango butter). It also includes lots of other sweet treats to make her smile – Think Pink Bath Bomb, The Comforter Bubble Bar, Pop In The Bath, Honey I Washed The Kids Soap, and Sultana of Soap. Choose from a purple or yellow gift box. Also check out the Sugar Mama Gift ($18.95), which comes with a Vanilla Dee-Lite (a super delish body lotion made with natural coconut butter) and Creamy Candy Bubble Bar.

For Moms Who Love Makeup

You probably have a pretty good idea of what kinds of makeup your mom likes. Pick and choose her favorite colors and put them together a Bobbi Brown Custom Palette. There are so many beautiful choices, like Bobbi’s new Sparkle Eye Shadows, Shimmer Blushes, Lip Quads, and Foundation Stick Compacts, to put in her three-, four-, and six-pan palettes. You can also add a Glitter Lip Balm, which you get for free with $65 orders at bobbibrown.com through June 15th (use code Lips11). For more info on the custom palettes and some of Bobbi’s latest makeup, as well as beauty tips from Bobbi and a video tutorial I shot, check out this recent post.

Neutrogena makes a lot of really good makeup and skin care at very reasonable prices. Another great option is to put together a basket of treats. If you decide to do this, definitely pop in a Healthy Volume Mascara ($8.99), one of the best mascaras I’ve ever used (FYI, they have a new waterproof version now), and a new MoistureShine Lipstick SPF 20 ($9.49), which has been formulated with Brazilian palm butter to keep lips moisturized for eight hours. I love these lipsticks, especially since they provide sun protection and plenty of pigment.

If your mom is glamorous and green, get her something fabulous from tarte. The eye couture day-to-night palette ($44) is so gorgeous. It includes an exquisite palette of ten beautiful eyeshadows, a double-ended brown and charcoal long-wearing eyeliner, and a really nice, soft, double-ended brush with greatness eyeshadow brush in a pretty, shimmery purple, quilted, mirrored clutch, which is reusable, because the shadows can be replaced with tarte eyeshadow singles. It also includes a cheat-sheet for creating daytime and nighttime looks. This is a crazy good deal at $44. Single eyeshadows normally sell for $14 and the brush goes for $24.

Another wonderful choice from tarte is the be good to your mother (earth) set ($35), which includes a fun, reusable, natural cotton tote and three 24.7 natural, lip sheers (wonderful, comfy balms with a pop of color and hint of mint). The sheers are wrapped in post-consumer, recycled aluminum to reduce environmental waste.

For Moms Who Like to Have Impeccable Skin

If your mom makes having impeccable skin a priority, as my mom does, get her a deluxe set of skin care treats. Boscia Travel Kits ($45) include their excellent, preservative-free essentials: cleanser, toner, day and night moisturizers, and their must-have blotting linens in a nice little travel bag. They also have a Best of Boscia Collection that’s an amazingly good deal ($95 value for $48) with three full-size superstars: Oil-free Daily Hydration SPF 15, Enlivening Amino-AG Eye Treatment (love this stuff), and Recharging Night Moisture. Boscia products are botanically based, good for sensitive skin, and are free of preservatives, bactericides, synthetic colorants, synthetic fragrance, mineral oil, animal ingredients, ethanol, and phthalates.

If your mom is into eco-luxury, spoil her with the Best of Jurlique Set – another very good deal ($153 value for $125). It comes with Jurlique’s most popular products: Herbal Recovery, Rosewater Balancing Mist, Daily Exfoliating Cream, and Moisture Replenishing Day Cream. Jurlique makes natural, plant-based products that contain no parabens, mineral oils, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, synthetic emulsifiers, artificial colours or fragrances, and are not tested on animals.

For Moms Who Love Fragrance

Mother’s Day is a really good time to pick up a gift set with your mom’s favorite fragrance. This and Christmas are some of the very best times to buy fragrance, because of all the great gift sets, which are usually really good deals. Estee Lauder has a Special Value Collection with several nice sets in their with classic fragrances like Beautiful and White Linen – fragrances my mom adores. Nordstrom also has a great Estee Lauder gift with purchase right now.

Elizabeth Arden is another line my mom is very fond of. I love the fresh, uplifting, refreshing Elizabeth Arden Green Tea Fragrance Collection. They have a new Green Tea Mother’s Day Set ($53 value for $39.50, pictured above on right) that comes with an eco-friendly, cotton canvas tote bag, Green Tea Scent Spray, Honey Drops Body Cream, Energizing Bath and Shower Gel, and Energizing Shampoo. You can also get a very cute, bonus pink carry-all bag with any $35 fragrance purchase at elizabetharden.com (use code PINKBAG).

Another fragrance option is to get Mom a beautiful scented candle. Trish McEvoy has a new Wild Fig Candle ($17.50-$46) that is to die for. Before it’s even lit, this elegant, luxurious candle fills the room with a comforting, warm, sweet (but not too sweet) scent. It’s made with a unique blend of waxes and a lead-free wick. You’d be hard pressed to find anyone wouldn’t love this candle.

  1. My mother’s never been much of a beauty junkie and she’s so choosy I live in dread of giving her something she doesn’t use or like (which is often!). I think this year I might just take the family out for a dim sum brunch instead. It’s a gift of quality time rather than a consumeristic gesture that’s going to give her stuff she doesn’t need. :)
