Bring out Your Inner Goddess

Celebrated makeup artist and beauty expert Shalini Vadhera has traveled the world and helps women bring out their inner goddess. Shalini (pictured above) has shared international beauty secrets and recipes in her fabulous book Passport to Beauty (which I wrote about earlier this week). She also incorporates those secrets into her stunning makeup and skincare line Global Goddess, in products like her hugely popular Coconut Amla Revitalizing Hair Treatment and new, award-winning Geisha Goddess Tinted Face Duo. The rich palettes are inspired by things like sunrises over the Serengeti and the pink city of Jaipur. And her makeup works for all ethnicities, even those with challenging mid-range skin tones, like women who are South Asian, Latina, and Middle Eastern, of mixed ethnicities.

Today I have beauty tips from Shalini; and I show off some of my favorite products in a video I made.

Beauty Tips from Shalini Vadhera

Shalini is super busy with things like appearances on The Today Show and The View. But she was kind enough to take some time to share her international beauty wisdom with us.

Bring out your inner goddess. To create an exotic look, Shalini says, “Play up your eyes! Lots of mascara and liner. I love our Cairo Eyes liquid liner to define the eye and give a more exotic look.”

Save money on foundation. As seasons change, our skin tone gets darker (like right now) or lighter (like in fall and winter). To save money and move between seasons without needing to buy a new foundation, she recommends choosing a product with two shades included, like the Complexion Perfection Duo, so you can custom blend the right shade.

Hard-to-match skin tones. If you’re South Asian, Latina, Middle Eastern, of mixed ethnicity, you probably have a hard time finding the right shade of foundation. Shalini says, “The mid skin tones are challenging because of the many undertones they have. It’s not the traditional pink or gold. You see a lot more olive and beige. We use a lot of green undertones and red undertones in our makeup to match these skin tones.” When looking for the right makeup, she recommends, “Look for colors that have a bit more olive in the undertones. If you are on the darker side, go with a bit more red in the undertone so not to look ashy and grey.”

A Closer Look

Personally, I’m very drawn to the line, because I’m a mix of Korean, Welch, and Irish. Her Complexion Perfection Duo (bottom middle) and new, award-winning Geisha Goddess Tinted Face Duo (far left) work like a charm for me. The Upgrade Complexion Face Primer (far right) does beautiful things to my skin as it illuminates with pearlescent pigments, lightens with licorice extract, nourishes with vitamins A and E, and makes makeup go on nice and smooth and last longer. The new Geisha Goddess Complexion Perfection Japanese Rice Powder (top right) does a fabulous job of taming shine and making my pores look smaller. And for a glamorous touch, I’m all about the Goddess Lights Parisian Nights Face and Body Shimmer Powder (top left), which sparkles marvelously and makes my skin looks like it’s draped in tiny diamonds (unfortunately, it’s tough to see in the video so do try it out for yourself).

To give you a closer look at how these products work, I shot a video to show you the products in action.

In the coming year, you can expect to see more wonderful products from Global Goddess in more stores.

  1. I only just found the right shade (since I started using the Avene tinted moisturizer for oily skin - trust me, it’s foundation.) It’s extremely pale (like me) with pigment to undercut redness - I also use a green stick underneath it because I have redness (though not rosacea). My ethnicity is mainly Puerto Rican with Italian and a smidge of Eastern European. But I don’t take the “look” of any of these ethnicities. I am not dark, don’t have think curly hair, not angular etc. I’m a serious mash up! I do have the latin body type though.

  2. ❤ K-Line, what a cool mix! But I can certainly see how that would be challenging for finding a foundation.
