The skin is our largest organ. Everything we put on it – from makeup to skin care – has the potential to be absorbed into our bodies so it’s worthwhile to take a closer look at the ingredients and consider safer, more natural products. Some artificial ingredients can interfere with the function of the skin and be irritating. Some can interfere with our hormones. Some can release formaldehyde into our bodies. Not cool at all.
If you want to green your makeup stash, enter our latest giveaway just for Coveted readers. You can win a Mineral Fusion Spring Blossom Kit worth $90 from Whole Foods. If you win, you get to pick from the Innocent Peach or Delicate Rose kit. Each kit includes a blush, lip gloss, eye shadow, blotting papers, and a DVD with tips and techniques. The beauty treats provide UV protection, contain antioxidants and natural colorants, and are free of parabens and talc.
How to enter…
To enter to win, head over to the Whole Foods blog and listen to their really helpful What to Look For, What to Avoid podcast. After you listen, leave a comment with “http://the-coveted.com” in the website field before May 30th. Note: a comment here will not count as an entry. You have to leave a comment on the Whole Foods blog post with the podcast with “http://the-coveted.com” in the website field.
The podcast is about how your beauty products can be hazardous to your health, and what ingredients we should avoid and why. Did you know that ingredients like phthalates, which can mess with your hormone function, can be in a product but not listed in the ingredients? Did you know that some preservatives may release formaldehyde into your body? Listen to the podcast to find out how to avoid these nasty ingredients. It’s part of Whole Foods’ podcast series, which is focused on natural cosmetics this month.
Good luck!

Sonja, I am finally starting to play with makeup - at 32 for Pete’s sake - thanks to you! I’ve gravitated toward mineral-based products, and now I’m SO glad I have. The podcast was really an eye-opener. Count me in for the contest!
I agree about scent - having organic and non-synthetic scents in a product makes all the difference. Would love to win these.
❤ Sal, wow, what a nice compliment! How cool is that?! Never too late to play with makeup. I don’t do it because I feel like I have to. I do it because it’s so much fun. I love to paint with “regular paints” and makeup is a way for me to paint every day.
Good luck in the contest!
❤ Hanna Granberg, I still have a weakness for the synthetics. I admit it. But I am definitely using more organic and all-natural alternatives. Pacifica is a really good choice, because their perfumes don’t wear off as quickly as most natural fragrances. And natural fragrances are so much nicer in makeup and skin care! Good luck in the contest!
❤ Ladies, be sure to leave a comment on the Whole Foods blog with “http://the-coveted.com” as your website to be entered in the giveaway!
