Fashion Week : The Video Game

by jennine on May 26, 2009

“It’s a perfect opportunity for the girl next door who wants to enter the fashion industry, but won’t have the chance to come anywhere near it,” says Adam Kline, president of 505 Games U.S. “Now she has an option to touch it, learn it and play it.” via MediaPost

This is not a joke, it’s totally true. 505 Games and IMG plan to launch a fashion week video game in 2010. Though a little more high tech than my lovely collage of a Wintour Pong game (which I would love to play) the fashion week video game will feature a the ‘insider’s’ perspective of the bi-annual madness as written by make up artist Pat McGrath and fashion insider Noel Gordon.

The game released on Nintendo, Microsoft, Sony and the iPhone will apparently give us all what we really want after all…

Wow, I’m not sure what to think about that statement… the girl next door can make her own chance of getting close to the fashion industry… bloggers do it all the time. Bloggers play fashion journalists so well… well you know the story, bloggers in the tents, large audiences, gaining power, blah, blah, blah. Not exactly breaking news.

Regardless, I think this game sounds amusing, heck, I would love to bust out the ol’ Nintendo64 and give this a whirl (oh wait, the video game industry has probably progressed since 1988), though I did love Super Mario Brothers, and may even prefer to play the video game than stand around the tents in less than sensible shoes. Perhaps, with this video game we can figure out what exactly goes on in the minds of these so called fashion people without taxing our souls.

I take issue with his quote too. It comes from someone with the misconception that fashion is this rarified world where few ordinary mortals tread, and that “fashion” only happens in global capitals like New York, Paris, and Tokyo.
