I love a good hand cream. Hands can get a lot of abuse. Washing dries them out – as do the elements, like the sun. The eventual end result is wrinkly hands with age spots – a sure sign of time marching on. But it’s possible to slow that down and keep hands looking youthful longer with some loving care. I recently discovered two new, extra special hand creams that work wonders to soften, smoothe, and brighten skin. These go well beyond your basic moisturizing hand cream. One is perfect for daytime, the other for night.
BORBA Advanced Aging Flawless Tone Hand Créme SPF 25 is a fantastic multi-taskers that’s ideal for daytime. It’s not often you find a hand cream with sun protection and yet it’s quite important. Here’s what makes it so lovely…
• It provides plenty of broad-spectrum protection from the sun, which is the greatest offender in aging skin.
• It’s a light, non-greasy formula that’s water-resistant so it stays on well.
• It moisturizes and improves skin’s ability to retain moisture.
• It helps with wrinkles, crepiness, loss of firmness, age spots, and dry skin, cuticles, and nails.
• Soothing, healing argan oil is one of the key ingredients.
It’s available at borba.com, qvc.com, and on QVC. $55 for 1.7 ounces.
Jurlique Purely Age-Defying Hand Treatment is an excellent cream to use before bed. My hands are wonderfully soft and smooth come morning. Here’s what makes it so lovely…
• This lightweight cream has a souffle-like texture and provides long-lasting, silky moisture that’s not a bit greasy.
• It calms and soothes dry skin, and reduces the look of fine lines and wrinkles with calendula, chamomile, pansy, sweet violet, and rosa gallica.
• It brightens overall skin tone, reduces redness, and fades discolorations with black elder and licorice.
• It protects skin from free radical damage with a cocktail of antioxidants.
• It’s made with organic ingredients and contain no parabens, mineral oils, propylene glycol, sodium lauryl sulfate, synthetic emulsifiers, artificial colors or fragrances.
It’s available at Jurlique stores, jurlique.com, select spas, and natural and organic stores. $49 for 3.5 ounces.

Oooh, love this post, Sonja! A friend of mine has this lovely, youthful face and shriveled, wrinkly, old lady hands. It always startles me, and reminds me to take care of my own. I’m slathering them with sunscreen, and will look into these products as well!

heh, i always think about the quote ‘by the time you can afford the rings you want, you prefer that no one look at your hands…’
they do take so much abuse!
I need to start using one of these now. Prevention is the best measure. =D

I used to work at a bakery while in school and my poor hands would be so beat up. I tend to forget about SPF for my hands - thanks for the reminder sonja!
Thanks, Sonja! I need a really good hand cream.

❤ Thanks, Sal! Isn’t that funny. We focus so much on the face and body that the hands so often get overlooked. Of course, it doesn’t help that they get SO much exposure and anything we put on them tends to get washed off throughout the day, so we do have to be more diligent in protecting them.
❤ Jennine, what an awesome quote! And so true! Boy, I gotta get to work and try to prevent that!
❤ Alicia, so true!
❤ Tami, wow, that must’ve been a bummer. I usually forget about SPF on my hands, too. Gotta get better about that!
❤ Maria, you’re so welcome. I think I’m going to put some on right now.
My hands are def the oldest looking part of me - partly because I wash them so often and I just can’t keep sunblock on them like I can on the rest of me. Also, they take a lot of wear and tear. I do have nice nails and I try to maintain and moisturize (I moisturize constantly) but I really notice my age in my hands.
