For the second time German retailer Peek & Cloppenberg presents a competition for new German Graduates who haven’t shown their work in a showroom. The winner, this time around Sam Frenzel, gets a cash prize and a tailor-made sponsoring program from P&C. And who doesn’t like cash? Anyway, this was probably one of the favorite shows I managed to finagle my way into , as I just love the optimism of student fashion design. Unfortunately I kept running out of space on my memory card, because there were so many great pieces to photograph. So apologies to the ones I didn’t get a clear shot of (Sasa Kovacevic I’m talking to you)…. it’ was quite comical trying to edit and delete photos during a runway show. Anyway, here’s what I got…
As if I needed to be convinced about the beauty of indigo…this ‘future is now collection’ made me want to break out my new indigo eyeshadow and wear it every day… now that’s something to go monochrome crazy about…. on a side note, don’t you love those velvet extra long leggings? Swoon!
This collection I deemed to be a bit more practical, but I have to admit I really loved the layering and the way the colors worked together here.
Here we have hints of post apocalyptic Pollyanna going on here. I do love way the garments seemingly different pieces stitched together, and I do love the long belt. Part of me kind of cringes, but part of me digs this, after all I did do the half skirt business a while back…. and you have to know I love chunky wool socks.
I like this… but I really don’t have anything to say about it but, more capes please.
The winner of the competition, and while I do like the pieces a lot, I was kind of rooting for the blue. There was another collection, which I missed entirely which had jeweled skirts and leopard leggings… but I won’t go into it now because it makes me tear up a little. However, to look at the bright side, this collection does have it’s highlights, see-through trousers, chunky chunky statement necklaces, bows, textured leggings. Sam kind of hit upon all the little design elements I’ve been lusting after these days.
I see why you lead with Arkadius Giesek - AMAZING - and I’d love to see more. I can see elements of other designers (like Stella and Rodarte) in Sam Frenzel’s collection but he/she has a clear vision.
It’s all about the Germans this year.

i agree, i love that Lena Pfeil capelet. i agree more capes, or capelets. and i love that Chantal Margiotta outfit. it hangs and intersects itself so perfectly. i guess because i obsess over shooting things where things hang right, i get tired of seeing these layered clothes looking sort of weak and messy in photos sometimes. messy can be great but sometimes not. and the Sam Frenzel, i love it. i love the transparent elements. those harem pants are beautiful.

Hi Jennine, I agree that Chantal Margiotta is most practical, but oh so sophisticated and pretty! Looks like a great show, thanks for sharing
