Turning Red

red outfit
I have always, always, always been a fan of red. My first lipstick was red. My homecoming dress was red (the only dress up dance I ever went to). Red just works for me. Wearing a monochrome red, however, isn’t something that I’ve done much of… ok, I’ve never really gone out in all red, unless I was wearing a red dress. It’s really powerful… not like some of the other colors, a monochromatic red pretty much screams ‘look at me!’ So how do you do a monochromatic red? Should you just go with some kind of pant suit like Sarah Palin? (I’m not even going to humor that with a link).

What I’ve done here, is to mix my reds with a soft silhouette. Of course, my reds don’t match 100%, and they don’t have too, in fact it might come off as too matchy-matchy if they were. I have this thrifted old-lady polyester peplum blouse that I turn upside down to this cropped ruffle neck top, and a slouchy tank dress underneath. I’ve also opted not to go with a true red lipstick, as for the day time, and with the rest of the outfit, I thought it might look too costumey (like that is going to top it over), but later when I go out I’ll probably make the swap to red lipstick.

  12. That looks amazing!

I’ve been wanting to do an all one colour outfit, but I don’t have enough clothes in the same colour, apart from black.

I love how you’ve turned that blouse upside down as well.

Question! You mentioned you flipped the blouse upside down, I can’t seem to see how you flipped it and had the sleeves still work. How’d you do it?

  34. Va-Voom! This outfit is beautiful and powerful at the same time. Interestingly, I just ordered a pair of berrry-colored gladiator heels with gold detailing. I feel compelled to experiment with reds and metallic details. Experimenting in this way picks up my mood in the wake of the loss of MJ and during the doldrums of the sluggish economy. Cheers, G.
