There is something wonderful about library appropriate attire, especially if you wear the perfect dress for requesting the John James Audobon’s Birds of America book because they never let you check that out. Ok… so I may be the only one who would actually dress up to request books from the reference library… but hey, sometimes I forget my driver’s license! Canadian designer, Hayley Gibson has her own line of library appropriate chic clothing aptly titled Birds of North America, each playfully innocent piece is named after a species of North American Bird, like the Puffin, Sandpiper, and Bushtit …ahem, excuse me please?
‘My life’s experiences comprised uniforms, boating paraphernalia, antique furniture that filled our house, the insides of institutions like schools, music conservatories, libraries and hospitals. It was on this frame that my aesthetic was formed.’ Says Hayley Gibson, which you can totally see elements of this in her collections.
And by the way… in case you need a reminder, Audobon’s illustrations are beautiful.

I love the cut-out pinafore style in the centre. Also, it’s sometimes refreshing to see a designer designing clothes rooted in “what they know” just as some of the best writers do.

❤ male mode… so true! it’s not often that we see designers make references to their actual lives… good observation.
