Win Free Magazines for a Year!

Post image for Win Free Magazines for a Year!

(here I am indulging in trashy gossip mags)

For the longest time, I considered myself a magazine junkie. And, I still enjoy reading magazines in the evening while the TV is playing in the background. It brings me back to a simpler time, and it’s nice to just… read.. something I rarely do when I’m working on the internet and finding myself working on 5 things at the same time: answering emails, writing posts, twittering, reading blogs, looking at kittens. I guess doing two things is downright relaxing!

We all know that the print business is undergoing some changes… and this isn’t going to be a post about that, because I can talk about it for ages. What this post is about, is the publishers are keying into custom subscription services like Maghound where you can pay a monthly fee (plans start at $4.95/month for three magazines) and select which magazines you want. Unlike regular subscriptions, you can swap out whenever you want, like tired of Elle? Go for Nylon? Or Real Living? Cat Fancy?

Sounds like a cool service! I would pick Instyle, Nylon and Elle.

I wish they offered more international magazines or my mom’s favourite magazine, Cowboys and Indians.

I will retweet!

I went on a mag diet over a year ago and purposely did not renew ANY of the numerous subscriptions I held… even vogue! partly for economical reasons, and partly recycling reasons… Now they’ve all run out and I thumb through them at the grocery store lost in the pretty glossy pages like a former junkie. of the ones they currently offer my top 3 would be Marie Claire (Nina Garcia moved there from Elle), Real Simple and ReadyMade. My wish list would be British Vogue, British Glamour and British anything else!

I’d subscribe to: In Style (which I’ve been reading for probably half my life), Nylon (since they gypped me from my free subscription from UO & only give it to me electronically now. lame.), and Ready Made! Or maybe Cat Fancy…. with me you can never tell, can you?? ;)

I would subscribe to Nylon (I used to, once, but let it lapse!), Real Simple, and Elle. (I’d also pick ReadyMade, but I think my old roommate never switched over her subscription to her new address — lucky me!)

Alas, I don’t see Lucky, V (another subscription I let lapse), or Vogue!

I would for sure subscribe to Nylon (my subscription ended!), Body + Soul (I loveee their ideas on how to live more ‘naturally’), and Elle.

I definitely would recommend them carrying Vogue Paris, Numero, and V. Those are my three favorites!

Great contest :)

Ooooohhhh I love magazines.

One of my fave past times is sitting on the couch with a cup of tea and flipping through! I already subscribe to NY Mag and Real Simple and plan to keep that, so I would ask for

- Elle
- NYLON
- InStyle

I suggest that they add:
- W Magazine
- Lula
- Russh
- Vogue (all countries!)

38 S Disconap September 3, 2009 at 6:35 am

I imagine this is only open to US readers, but they should invent this for the UK. I get excited enough about my Elle coming, a whole stack of magazine might make me blow a gasket.

I can see why everyone is saying Elle, Nylon, Instyle as there isn’t much choice there and that’s what I’d go for. No Vogue! I’d add international mags like Lula, Pop, all the British fash mags as lots of US readers would like a cheaper way to buy them. I’d pay extra on top of the set fee.

I would deffinitely suggest adding W, which is the best, and also Vogue.

oh my goodness how awesome! keep them coming… i’m also surprised by the absense of vogue and W (which I really love….) but imported mags would be great.

Cosmo, Seventeen (what?!), and Writer’s Digest.

42 Lucy September 3, 2009 at 3:26 pm

AHHH! This is perfect! I oftentimes buy magazines but don’t subscribe because I already have too many subscriptions AND only a few issues out of a whole year’s subscription are true keepers.

I don’t think I’ll qualify if I mention only two magazines I’m willing to subscribe to through this service (Elle and New York Magazine puts out a few nice issues every year). If Vogue US was in there (there are only like two issues every year that I would throw out or re-sell) or some international fashion magazines, I would totally subscribe to maghound!

thanks again

Cool idea for a site, indeed.

Based on the current selection, I’d go for Elle, New York Magazine, and Marie Claire.

As for mags they should ad? Well, Vogue obviously. W, Teen Vogue, The New Yorker, The Economist, and Art Forum.

From the current selection, I would choose….
Fast Company(cause I’m a nerd)
Consumer Reports (did I mention what a nerd I am!?)
and either Maxim for my DH
or Baseball Digest for my Brother
(just to be nice and share like my mom taught me).

This really seems like a great service, simply for the ease of managing subscriptions in one place.

47 LeaneG September 4, 2009 at 11:56 am

I would love to see them add the magazine, ‘All You’.

It has great organization tips for the home, recipes and a slew of coupons(of course, my FAV)…which really helps me run my household. Currently I buy them at the store, but it would be nice to have at least 2 copies delivered each month. The double copies would be for the double coupons.
