Hidden Sequins

sequin

Do you love sequins, but don’t know exactly how you can wear them all the time? I know, I know, deep thoughts here. But I do think about this stuff! I love sequins, I want to wear them all the time… but sometimes, I don’t want to look like a Vegas grandma on a night with the ‘ladies’. As appealing as that sounds. Surprisingly, I only own a few sequin pieces. And I do love them but the main problem I face is how to actually wear them in real life.

Then the answer came… I have a sequin tube top, and most of the time it lays around because I’m thinking ‘What can you really do with sequin tube tops? Really?’ It has the thickness of a sweater, but if I wear it, chances are, I have bare arms and shoulders. . However, the sparkles are great, and it did  come for cheap, I picked this black sequin tube top at the flea market for $1. And I’ve seen boxes of them in vintage shops for $10. One of the ways I’ve been experimenting with lately is to wear sequin tubes like belts… Belly warmers… Midriff covers… Obviously I need to take a trip to the clothing naming department, perhaps I’ll pick up a clever name like ‘jeggings.’

The tube worn as belt made it easy to show a little bit of shape as well as add the comfort of warmth… these days the chill is starting to blow in, and I need all the secret layers I can get.

Yeah, I probably wont survive the Chicago winter. Anybody in California got a spare room? Oh yeah, my mom does, I better give her a call.

Cummerbund perhaps?

So emphasize on the winter situation. Although I do appreciate the opportunity to wear a sequined beret because is “necessary.”

Great idea! One of my sequined granny vegas shirts has been languishing in my closet. For some reason, I never thought to throw a blazer over it until just now…now I feel slow. LOL. =D

I love it! I’m such a sucker for sparkly things (yes, just like Homer Simpson). I love your creative idea. I think “belly warmer” is the perfect name. And you know, you can market these to pregnant woman who buy those little tube tops for their bellies so they can keep wearing some of their non-preggers shirts for awhile. I think they’re called belly bands. I love all the blue, too. Hope you’re loading up on sweaters for the winter. Be sure to get a good supply of long underwear, too. :)

Despite my moniker of choice, I don’t always run around wearing sequins. But you look amazing on the layered sequin look. There are all sorts of embellishments for fall that don’t look as Vegas shiny- such as matte paillettes for texture and subtle shimmer… and also the idea of layering mesh over the sequin outfits to mattify. You can definitely come up with creative ways to don the sequin. Speaking of which… I do have a Topshop sequin dress that I’ve been dying to debut…..

Tis the season of the sequin!

I have a sequin headband that I made as part of my Halloween costume last year (I was a flapper girl) and I still wear it all the time!! Sequins are great in moderation, to much at one time and you look like a vegas showgirl.

Don’t give up on Chicago just yet. I know it was cold yesterday and that won’t be the worst of it this fall/winter, but there is no other better place to live (myopnion at least:)

Ach, brilliant. What a fantastically subtle way to wear your sequins! I love my sequined tops, and can’t wait for it to get a bit colder so I can bust out the sequined skirt. Somehow, it seems like a winter item to me …

Good layering - is it a tube belt or tummy warmer. You see I’m struggling to think of a jeggings like term!
Whatever it is a stroke of sheer fashion genius, looks fab.

I love the peekaboo of the striped socks & all the layering you have going on here!

What about…oh, I don’t know, I won’t even try because the first thing I thought of was “telt” for tube belt. Sorry, Jennine, I’m not a namer!

killer idea… i really want to try this!!! also, love the socks and still the boots!!!

22 enc September 30, 2009 at 7:39 pm

Very clever. I like the placement and the peekiness of it. Sequins can be so OTT, but not in this case. They don’t steal the look. They play off the boots and belt a bit, I think.

It looks great with the rest of your outfit.

I used something very similar a while ago. It was actually the model’s idea. She brought it and it was a vintage boob tube too.

Love this outfit, The sequin belt/bellywarmer is the icing on top. I love the layers and those boots are fabulous. I think it can be so much harder to be stylish in the cold, I end up wearing my fluffy warm dressinggown over my clothes half the time at home because I get so cold! Not so stylish! :)
