Bobbi Brown just introduced the new Chrome Collection – her second collection for the holidays. I recently shot a video with both the Holiday and Chrome Collections. I’ll post that soon with a review of the Holiday Collection, which I previewed last month.

In the meantime, let’s take a look at the new Chrome Collection. It includes a silvery, smoky palette with eye shadows and glosses, three lipsticks, and a mini brush set. Bobbi says, “Chrome is cool and icy – it’s a very modern, but still pretty way to illuminate the skin.” I do agree.

The Chrome Palette

The Eye Shadows. The Chrome Palette ($75) offers ten eye shadows in a variety of finishes, including mattes, shimmers, sparkles, and metallics. The colors range from white to silvery and plum grays to a deep charcoal. The palette comes with two cruelty-free brushes (Mini Eye Shadow and Mini Lip Brushes) – so much nicer than those sponge applicators.

The eye shadows are great for creating a sheer wash of cool colors or a silvery, sparkly, smoky eye, which is what I opted for in the photos. But I do wish the shades varied more and there were more vivid plum shades – some of the colors look pretty similar on the skin. I also wish there was more pigment in more of the shadows – several of them are quite sheer. To give them more oomph, I applied the lighter and medium shades wet. I also used the charcoal wet as a smoky liner.

The Lip Colors. For the lips, there are four glosses: Pink Mist Shimmer (a light, sheer pink), Winter Bronze (a golden bronze), Berry Shimmer (a sheer berry), Chrome Pink (a light, pearly pink). I like the bronze best, because it has the most pigment. The glosses are all very pretty. But I would have liked a lipstick included among the glosses. Perhaps no lipstick was included, because Bobbi came out with new lipstick colors in this collection.

A really nice feature to the palette is that the shadows and glosses are separated when stored since the mirror folds down to cover the shadows.

New Lip Color

Chrome-Lip-ColorsThe Chrome Collection also includes three new shades of Lip Color: Port, Chrome Metallic, and Plum Pearl ($22 each). I haven’t tried Chrome Metallic or Plum Pearl so I’m not sure how those look on. But I did get a sample of Port, which I’m wearing in the photo. It looks a bit red in the photo. In reality, it’s more wine with a bit of plum in it – beautiful for fall and winter. The formula is excellent – very moist and creamy.

More Details

The collection also includes the Chrome Mini Brush Set ($55) with three of Bobbi’s great, cruelty-free brushes: a Mini Face Blender, a new Mini Angle Eye Shadow Brush, and a Mini Eye Liner) as well as a chrome, faux-leather, zip-around case.

This collection hits stores this month. It’s available at Bobbi Brown counters and at Do stop back by later in the week to see my video post with Bobbi Brown Education Executive Katrina Rau working her magic with both the Holiday and Chrome Collections, an excellent new lip gloss, and a dramatic new mascara.

Yes, I do wear silver/slate shadows, generally with Nars Cordura in the contour. My fave shadow in this color range is LORAC Heavy Metal, which was part of a palette.

I was interested in the BB Chrome, except that none of those glosses does anything for me, making the palette too expensive. Also, as is usual there are a couple of colors here in which I have no interest (the matte and the white shade).

Not sure I like the look of red lips with the silvery eye. I think this is because the lipstick causes the blue tones in the shadow to come out. Prefer red lips with beige shadows, but that is a very subjective quibble.

Thanks for this review. Think I will skip this palette due to the cost and duplication with colors I already have.

❤ Sally, thank you!!
❤ Tami, thank you! I was looking for a good wine shade and love this one.
❤ Suzanna, ooooh, the LORAC Heavy Metals sound great. I definitely would’ve liked some lipsticks or a silvery gloss in the palette. The mattes are actually good bases to go under the sparkly shades. The white definitely brings them out more. You’re right about the red bringing out the coolness of the shadows. But I think it works well for a night out, particularly since the lipstick is actually a deeper color than what shows up in the photo. I’m glad the review helped!

I’ve beeen looking for a subdued red lip stick and my closest bet was Shu Uemura.. Now I’ll be using CHROME PORT! Thanks for the intro! x

❤ Eyespy, you’re very welcome. I LOVE Port. It was just what my makeup “wardrobe” needed. :)

❤ Kristin, I usually don’t do cool colors but it’s been fun to experiment with these.
