Here in San Francisco we’ve been getting some brisk fall weather (all things relative – as in nothing like the seriously chilly temps in the Midwest or East). I finally packed up all my summer clothes and am starting to wear sweaters and clothes in darker hues, like hunter green and rich browns. Along with my clothing, I’m changing up my makeup.
I’ve been dipping into deeper, autumnal shades. Some of my favorite looks are smoky eyes with plum eye shadows and light pink lips (like those in the Guerlain fall collection – that’s their model for that campaign on the left) and softer eye makeup with dark, wine lip colors (like the lipstick worn by model for the Dior fall makeup collection on the right). I’ve definitely been seeing a lot of plums in the fall makeup collections.
Another big makeup trend for fall is smoky eyes with gray shadows (also worn by the Dior model above – although I mainly do smoky eyes or a vibrant lip shade but not both together). I rarely wore gray eye makeup before this fall. But I was inspired by all the great grays in the Dior fall collection and the new Bobbi Brown Chrome Collection so I’ve been experimenting a lot with those shades. It’s nice to change things up a bit.
Are you playing with any new colors or looks? What are your favorite fall/winter looks?

Such a fan of grey and smokey eye shadow. It’s a great look for when the weather gets cold! I’m loving blue, plum and green colored eyeliners and mascaras as well (when worn with subtlety)

Hmm lately I’ve been wearing a lot more black liquid eyeliner just near my upper lashline with a bold red lip gloss. It seemed heavy for summer but for fall it seems just right. I’ve also been wearing darker nail polish hues. My current favourite is Metro Chic by Sephora by OPI-a grayish plum hue.

Love the plum smokey eye and I’m loving the dark black gloss over everything to make the shades darker. I think what I love the most about the fall makeup is that I can do more. I don’t really have to worry about my eye shadow melting in high humidity, so I get to have a lot more fun when it’s cold outside.

i try to stay away from foundation that clogs in the rain!
and i’m still obsessed with black lips.

I am seriously make up challenged. It’s bad. Anyone know of a good online tutorial? No joke! I love Chanel lipstick & there’s a nice shade of brown eyeliner by Shiseido that I wear every day. Other than that, I’m lost. That’s why I always wear sunglasses in my photo shoots. Advice is welcome.

ooh i’ve been going back and forth with heavy grey eyeshadow and nude lips to bare eyes and dark, lips
been thinking about returning to blush, even though i could never master it, these months, i’m so pale, i need something.
I prefer lighter more glowey looks when the weather doesn’t provide it. Left is my fave

Love Guerlain’s Fall collection- nice soft shimmery taupe is sexy! I also heart Dior’s Night Butterfly purple hues- purples really bring out the eyes. The golden brown/sandy tones (inspired by Thanksgiving) are also another one of my favs- warm, subtle, yet pretty. Deep shades of greens are amazing- Tarte and Bobbi Brown (Bash from the Ivy League Collection) can also create fun looks for Fall! Nevertheless, red lips in fall/winter= sophistication!
Options, options, options!
❤ Fasshonaburu, that’s such a pretty look!
❤ Andrea, yes, I’ve been playing with those liner colors, too. So much fun!
❤ lisa, I’m sure the black liner and red lips look gorgeous on you! The polish sounds great.
❤ dwj, such a good point. I love when the weather is cooler so I can do more with my makeup. Melting makeup is no good.
❤ TMWKTM, me too! It’s so soft and feminine.
❤ Tami, those are soooo pretty!
❤ kirsten, I just got the new red for the holidays from Estee Lauder. Red lipstick is so much fun!
❤ hannah elizabeth, any tips for wearing it? I always feel too goth with the new black lipsticks and glosses.
❤ Nickie Frye, I have a ton of makeup videos on YouTube. I work with professional makeup artists. They talk about new makeup collections but they also include a lot of great tips when they apply the makeup: http://www.youtube.com/user/sonjabeauty.
❤ jennine, the importance of blush is usually underestimated. Just a quick sweep or two of a pink blush gives a subtle pop of color that mimics a healthy flush.
❤ PixelHazard, good point. A glowy look is the perfect way to counter cold, grey weather.
❤ MAISON CHAPLIN, thanks for following The Coveted!
❤ zarb, thanks!
❤ Midtown Girl, ooooh greens. I think I need to break out some and play with them.
❤ Kristen, happy to help!
❤ hanako66, yes, fall/winter are great for breaking out strong lip color most definitely.
❤ Miss Jenn, heehee! I know what you mean. So many wonderful colors to play with!
I really don’t do anything that dramatic during the day but I am a sucker for dark gray, navy or black eyeliner (powder) on the top lids. Lips are usually a faint gold or very dark lip gloss. The weather started getting cold starting the first day of fall here in Portland, so my summer clothes have been packed for weeks now!

❤ Carla, what do you use for gold on the lips? I’m looking for a good gold gloss but most stuff is too sheer to see the gold.
