Something’s in the air for leg accessories… I tell you. Either that, or I’m just happy to accessorize an appendage that, well doesn’t have ‘those days.’ if you know what I mean… like today I can’t wear a belt. My mid-section just will not allow it. This morning sifting through the random emails in my box, the lovely people at Omelle had among other things that caught my eye, fur spats.
Now I don’t want to open up the fur debate, because there are lots of posts around talking about just that. Personally, I’m on the fence about fur, and could easily go either way, so I don’t have a solid opinion worth sharing here. These spats are real fur, but couldn’t you imagine LoveMaegan doing her own DIY faux fur spats tutorial? Well, I love spats, but am also on the fence about these, in a way, where I either really love them or I really hate them. It’s definitely not an ambivalent feeling, either trés chic, or trés trash, because with the right outfit it could work beautifully, or it could just come off like UGGs gone wrong.

I actually love these, and agree the fur argument is irrelevant as it can be done with real or fake for this look. Even more than that, I think it could work with a variety of fabrications from leather to cotton for different effects. What I like best is that adding a spat is a way to bring a fall or spring shoe into winter. When everybody is trying to save a buck and make the most of what they have, this is a fantastic idea to bring an old shoe a fresh look!

oooh, you’re giving me loads of ideas here! because i have a lot of shoes to bring back to life!
You know, I keep looking at those and seeing features & qualities I like, but thinking that shoe overall is a mess. D:
The heels is amazing- so is the toe. But I wish it were just a nice pump.

oh yeah, but that part is sold separately!
How am I so daft to have missed that?! I love me some spats…but those would probably make my calves look larger & more German than they already do (or so my momma says).

oh my goodness, i never heard of calves being described as ‘german’ awesome. i love germans!
I can never find the fur argument irrelevant and I am totally not on the fence. Fur is one of the worst, most horrific industries out there … and that’s saying alot.
If you want these in faux go for it. If you like the look there are tons of realistic looking materials out there that don’t require electrocuting animals and often skinning them alive and then leaving them to suffer and die miserably. There is absolutely no reason to use real animal skin.

I think the shoes make me not like the spats…eh. I vote no.
While I probably wouldn’t go out and buy them, I’d totally wear them if I was given them. I think they’re cool!

i knew you would think so! i totally thought of you when i saw these.
hmm…i actually don’t hate them but they just look kind of chunky, and heavy. They could be incorporated a little better on the designer’s part and made to look light and feminine. Because the idea of fur spats kindof makes me want some. maybe soon someone will do them right!

they are pretty chunky, and that’s my main problem with it…
I can totally see them working, but not on me!

I think they’re pretty cuute! But I’d prefer faux-fur, personally.
they would totally work in faux too.
Putting on shoes is enough of a decision for me. I definitely don’t need to add to my confusion about the foot area!

well you do have a wonderful shoe collection!!
They just make me think I need to shave my legs! I like spats in other materials, but the fur is a turn off for me.

It’s such a strange Ugg hybrid. Maybe it’s too cutting edge for me- maybe I’ll look back on these in a few seasons and think they look completely normal- like big shoulders or harem pants

i can’t believe something is too cutting edge for you!
I think they’re awesome, I don’t know if it’s because I love fur or fuzzy things but I wouldn’t care I would give these guys a chance try them on first before I judge them, hell yeah I would try them and knowing me I’ll probably wear them too lol.
Much love,
Glendy

i love fuzzy things too, and they probably need a good trying on to see if they really actually work.
Oooh-I just wrote about spats chez moi a few days ago! I think that these would have a voluminizing effect that could lead to a grand fur cankle. Or they’d be utterly cool and edgy. I’d like to see a whole-ensemble image before committing or fully rejecting . . .
I don’t think I’d ever wear them, but interesting idea! I do love the idea of adding accessories to shoes to change up the look…

I love the look of these. But I’m somewhere more toward the middle on fur. It depends on how the animal dies. Like lambs already make leather and aren’t *trapped*, they’re farmed - which isn’t great but it’s not a danger to other woodland creatures. I’m no vegan, either!
I mostly hate fur, but recently I had to do some consideration over vintage. I don’t know.
Oh and about having “those days” - when I don’t get enough sleep, my ankles swell. Heh. Or no to the heh, heh.
