At the time of release, The Legend of Billie Jean, bombed. Even for 1985, the plot is outrageous, campy acting, and maybe at the time it sucked, but today makes for a fantastic cheesy movie night. In retrospect, the movie starred notable actors, Christian Slater as a young boy… an little girl with braids, who Rocky and I kept saying “Shut up! Her voice is so annoying!” well, she turned out to be Yeardley Smith a.k.a. Lisa Simpson, Dean Stockwell, and a gorgeous Helen Slater (not related to Christian). But even with a few names, the film fell into obscurity.
Billie Jean goes on a crusade to fix her brother’s moped which was trashed by bullies. Yes, a moped, a Honda Elite. And through a series of mishaps, they end up running from the law. I don’t want to give too much away, but the film was entertaining, and funny if you like yelling at the tv (and I do!) but it was also worth watching for the 80′s fashion. I loved the denim vests, the relaxed layers, high waisted baggy jeans, sack waisted trousers, giant belts…hats, and flyaway locks. It was certainly like, wow, they really did dress that way back then. I don’t know, my memory was a bit foggy back then, because I was thinking more about my little pony and candy than fashion trends. Heck, I still think more about candy than fashion trends.

The hair was soo part of this iconic era - super fried & hair sprayed!

oh my goodness! the lady gaga pony is adorable! i love the crystals!
That movie was awesome! Awesome in that it was so bad that it was actually pretty good. I remember watching the movie with my cousins at my grandmother’s house. Maybe I need to watch it again so that I can be more aware of the fashions at the time because watching it back then, it was still the 80′s, so still too familiar!

Squeal!
This movie made me fall in love with Christian Slater. I haven’t thought about it in so long. My heart broke when she cut her hair.
Another movie that’s great for ’80s fashion and “whoa, I remember dressing like that!” and Shoutworthy Movie Badness is “Lost Boys” (http://us.imdb.com/title/tt0093437/ ). Nomi
