Honestly? Do you get all gussied up? Or are sweats more your style?
Do you find you dress up more for friends or family?
Thanksgiving with my mom is pretty casual. With my grandparents, well, my grandma would put out the gold plated silverware, so I would dress nicely, but not over the top. Once my family had Thanksgiving at the Top of the Mark…which was gorgeous, and that meant digging out some of my nicer clothes. But then once I went to Tahoe with a couple of friends and I don’t think I even got out of my pajamas… maybe I wore yoga pants and a sweatshirt? Ooh… stylish!
Generally, I feel best at a casual feast. Usually I’ll try to look decent, but that usually goes to pot when I’m laying on the floor with ambrosia on my nose.
My Thanksgiving tips for fashion are pretty much like my obvious ‘cold remedies’ (er, chicken soup & rest?) Wear something stretchy, black or dark brown in case there’s any gravy spillage. I also like to stay cozy with chunky sweaters and take nice walks with company, I mean, between naps on the floor.
Sweater : Thrifted • Dress : SPUN • Scarf belt and Tights : H&M • Quilted Riding Boots : Talbots

I’m always stuck between the “oh I need to look nice” and the “Too busy cooking, don’t have time for a shower!” that tends to happen on Thanksgiving. At the very least I try to do cute but still comfy, definitely.
This year I’ve eliminated tights from the picture — tight waistbands and lots of food don’t really mesh well for me, so I bought over-the-knee socks to get the look without the tummy-squeeze. I’m a little worried about them bunching or sliding down, so we’ll see how it works!

it’s always hard to know which end of the spectrum to fall on… at least you have an excuse, cooking!
that said i’m so used to tights, i almost feel more uncomfortable without them!
You have the right idea
Hope you have a wonderful Thanksgiving!

thank you my dear! you too!
I just did a similar post on my blog.
I always find it hard to dress up, but stay casual since it’s family.
I tend to get the “Why’d you wear heels?’ spill from my more casual family members.

i enjoy getting dressed up to, but sometimes that hinders the pie eating!
Maybe tights are better….a reminder not to overindulge?
Ah- who am I kidding?
I’ll look nice, but definitely in some jeans or pants that have a bit of room around the waist.

oh my goodness, am i the only one who thinks tights are comfortable? maybe my tights are too big…
roomy waist is so important!
i tend to *like* dressing up just because it’s a holiday, so want to make it somewhat special. however, like you, it depends on the scenario…dressed up formal dinner with the in-laws or t-shirt still covered with mac & cheese sauce from cooking at my parents’ house

hehhee, i’m liking the way dinner at your parents sounds!
That photo shows you chic - but comfy. I like to dress that way for the hols. Not that it’s a hol for me this weekend (sob).

I love your outfit pic and guidelines! I need something stretchy but still more dressed up than usual. And the nude lipstick instead of a bright red or pink so it’s not all obviously smeared all over your fork and your food. Really do love your blog, happy Thanksgiving!

i love your “adjustable belt”! brilliant
i’m definitely more of a comfy chic person during the holidays, definitely on thanksgiving. that means leggings, an “adjustable” shirt-dress or blousy tunic, cozy cardigan and my favorite accessory - a nice big mug of hot chocolate.
happy thanksgiving!

I’m a sweats kind of person, but if I’m going to other people’s homes, I usually put on real clothes. LOL.

I’m just going to be in my typical jeans and a t-shirt. Will be spending time with 14-month-old nephew so no reason to be fancy if he’ll be putting sticky hands on me.
By the way, I hate Thanksgiving!

The adjustable “belt” is an excellent touch!

I like to dress up, just for fun, then change directly after dinner. I find I’m usually overdressed, then underdressed. . . oh well!
