Slow dressing

by jennine on November 27, 2009

Today I got dressed, and undressed then dressed again. Nothing seemed to work quite right. Maybe it’s a bad face day, a bad body day, maybe I just should have stayed in bed. Or maybe inspiration just takes time.

Upon looking through my closet, I noticed the things I love the most are the ones with the unique details. I have this chunky sweater picked up at the thrift store about a month ago. The sweater is from the 80’s it still had it’s tags. Apparently it sat in a few closets unworn. What I love the most is the seam of the sweater… or piping it’s rather dramatic and while I love that detail, I haven’t quite figured out how to wear the whole sweater. But it’s usually how an outfit begins. It doesn’t always happen right away, sometimes it has to gestate. A detail I love that sits in my mind for some time before it comes to fruition. Like how I obsessed over painted nails long before I actually came around and did it myself. A simple action yes, but it took months for me to try it. Which reminds me, it’s time to do the nails again!

sometime i buy things because i love a detail or part of you, like you talked about, but then it might sit in my closet for months before i have that ‘aha’ moment with it and all of a sudden it is a new favorite piece that i wear all the time.

I guess people tell this all the time, but I’ll say it anyway. You have great taste in jewelry.

Love that sweater and the nail polish color is super sweet.

I have some days like those, that no matter how many times you change you still feel horrid with your own self.

I am obsessed with that ring! But yeah, I hate those days when nothing you put on makes a statement you are looking for. Even in a full closet you can’t find anything to wear…sad huh?

That sweater is so lovely. And I adore the ring! It’s such a beautiful, subtle piece. The nail polish is such a great color too.

I know the feeling, sometimes I think I have nothing to wear. I find that it also depends on my mood, when I am stressed or in a hurry nothing will work, but when I spend just a few minutes before going to bed think what I will wear the next morning I always come up with a new idea or combination. I have emergency outfits - well tested outfits when I want to play it safe.

Lovely jumper, I can see myself wearing it too when I want to hide from the world :)
