Are you a glitter girl, too?

by Sonja on November 30, 2009

I am such a sucker for glitter. I was just at Sephora, where the salespeople are doing holiday-themed makeup on themselves. One chick had gold glitter all over her eyelids and I was just mesmerized. I was like Homer Simpson distracted by a shiny object.

When I got this Sephora holiday catalog, I was trying to think of an occasion when I could wear a look like this. OK, it’s just a tad over the top – but a girl can dream.

These days I don’t have many opportunities to really pack on the glitter. I feel I’m a bit too old to be wearing it every day (though that could be fun).

Now that the holidays are here, I’m jumping on every opportunity to get glittery. Give me a holiday party and I will be sporting some form of glittery makeup – whether it’s a glittery eye shadow, liner, or body powder.

Are you a glitter girl, too?

LOVE! if it was socially acceptable (besides for drag queens and ziggy stardust, i mean) i would be wearing false eyelashes and face glitter to the post office, the library, picking up my dry cleaning. . . . i can’t wait to go all out for all the holiday parties this year!

Too funny! So glad to know I’m in such good company. My husband makes fun of me because we can be talking-and someone wearing some sort of sparkly object walks by…weather it be a big ring, glittery makeup or whatever…and I stop mid-sentence to comment on the sparkle. So yes-I am a glitter girl too! Any excuse I can find to wear it…

Ever since i got this free tub of sparkly silver glitters at a teen-magazine it has always found a place in my makeup bag. As a teen i would have it all over my cheeks with little star-stickers on my face, at Art school i would convince my fellow male student to let me make pink-glitter-moustaches on their face… oooh glitter.
I recently found myself in the supermarket in total excitement because i have never seen a big collection of food glitters before, my mind went racing about all the recipe’s i could ‘upgrade’ with some sparklers hahaha.

So for days that glitter cannot be approperiate i just dust myself in glitter under my clothes. I love glittered dusting powders its very subtle and not so sticky as the lotion ones.

❤ Piper, that’s awesome! I see a sparkly and I’m just like, “ooooooooooh, preeeetty.” We should start a glitter club or maybe it should be glitter-lovers anonymous. :)
❤ Amika, star stickers and pink glitter moustaches – I love it! Food glitter sounds like an excellent way to branch out and fill the glitter void when we can’t wear as much glitter as we’d like. Nice tip on the body powders under clothes, too!

I used to be a glitter girl, but not so much anymore. In fact, I tossed out some of my shimmery eyeshadows and replaced them with matte ones! I think the reason why I’ve weaned myself off it is so many products have shimmer in them nowadays-highlighter, blush, bronzer. It seems excessive for me to have glittery eyeshadow on top of that. But hey, for the gals who want to rock this look, more power to you! :)

❤ lisa, you’re right. You can definitely overdo glitter and shimmer. It’s important to focus on just one area (eg. eyes) and keep the rest toned down to get a more “grown-up” look.

I’m as glittery as Nars Silk Road. I have to fleck some chunks off before wearing. When I wear this duo, I wear a flat cream blush and do not go near my Nars Copacabana Multiple.

How’s this for holiday maquillage: A clerk in a L’Occitane, who had the most fabulous skin, had on-if I can adequately describe it-vertical stripes of shadow that went from lashline to brow. Starting at the outer corner was red stripe, then in the center green, then another red. These were bold and fully pigmented stripes on their own, but who could resist the bright yellow eyeliner she stroked on to complete the, uh, “ensemble”?

I swooned when I saw the Sephora catalog. I looooove the sparkle and will admit that I use the holidays as my excuse to bling it up in the beauty department. I figure I’m 31…I’m not too old yet, right?

I think I look best in minimal and no make-up. But just like you said, a girl can dream. But your beauty posts make tempt me so much and yes, in my imagination, I am a glitter girl

❤ DWJ, totally! I just got another and I just want to bathe in glitter now. I refuse to think 31 is too old, because that would put me as waaaaaay to old at 39! lol!
❤ Audi, oooooh, that sounds wonderful! I really “NEED” a glitter mascara!
❤ Goody, I wish I wasn’t so lazy with my nails. Otherwise, I would definitely glitter them up. And I’m totally the same way with shimmer. It’s sort of a compromise when I can’t go full tilt glitter. :)

I really love shimmery looks, but I think glitter on the eyes is so fun. I don’t know if I would wear it though; I’m a chicken. Somehow I feel like people would stare at me like I’m stupid and I’m trying to be 12. Maybe the people I hang out with are too serious. =)

I love glitter! I wear a thin line under my lower lashes during the day. Just a little keeps it from looking too crazy for work.

❤ Suzanna, wow! What an “ensemble!” I never would’ve expected that at a place like L’Occitane.
❤ Freya, I love it! Maybe we can get you to put on a nice glitter liner to bling up your natural look. :)
❤ Closet Cravings, I sometimes wonder what people think when I go out in glitter. But, whatever, if they don’t like it, who cares? Life is too short to not have a bit of fun with my makeup on occasion.
❤ Sarah, oooooh, I’m gonna have to try that. I usually just wear it on my eyelids but never along the lower lash line. Time to experiment! Thanks for sharing!

Those eyelashes are fabulous! If a tad extreme, but that’s what magazines and such are for!
I do like a nice bit of glitter every now and then.

❤ Florrie, yes, they’re totally over the top. I wish I had an occasion for them. But I probably won’t unless I decide to become a drag queen. :)
