de*nada: Rope around the neck

by jennine on December 8, 2009

Every time I think about weening myself off of scarves, comes a new scarf to add to the ol’ wishlist. It’s almost like every time I cross an empty street, ten cars come by. There must be some kind of strange psychology to that! Well, it’s the season for bundling, and going with the generic scarves just won’t cut it. de*nada makes these lovely sculptural braided scarves with such a simple idea, yet completely unique and actually for an affordable price, each scarf is handmade in Peru and ranges between $48-$58.

One of the days I was able to make it out of the hotel room in Korea, I ventured out  to the Dongdae-Mung Market which is fantastic, but ultimately depressing if you can’t actually sew or do any decent DIY projects because this massive market has just about every single thing you would ever possibly need or want to create any garment, accessory, random thing. I saw this pile of gold rope and just stared at it for a good while knowing that it was something I could see wearing somehow. But without the skills, I was unable to articulate this other than, “I want to wear lots of gold rope.”  the de*nada gives the inspiration on just what one could do….

I found a ball of yarn and my crochet needle yesterday! And I started a new scarf, but I bet something like this wouldnt be all that hard to do either.

The second one reminds me of a bell-pull. Bell-pulls remind me of the time I was in the bell tower of Notre Dame and some French tour guide made me tap the bell like I was a miniature Quasimodo.

These scarves are really cool. I especially like the all grey one. I think you can totally bust out something cool w/ that gold rope! I came across a whole spool of black & gold fringe the other day on one of my vintage hunts & I didn’t get it b/c I always buy materials & then do nothing with them. Then yesterday, someone on the Young & the Restless (yes, I’m an addict) was wearing this totally fabulous coat that was covered w/ fringe. Ugh, I could totally have used that spool of fringe & covered some cheap jacket w/ it. So cute. I hope you got the rope & anything else from that market that looked cool. I think buyer’s regret is better than non-buyer’s regret. Darn those ones that get away! :-)

I too hope you got it. I am sure you would come up with a fab idea of what to so with it. I am knitting scarves right now like a maniac along with sewing at all hours. This month is too short! Or should I say I am just too much of a procrastinator and push things right to the last minute *wry grin*

The gold rope looks gorgeous and create away. Isn’t it funny how when you always swear off something temptation hits again.

Scarves are absolutely addictive. I have so many now that they’ve outgrown their large drawer. And now I see that amazing grey scarf. I have a feeling I may just need one more scarf. ;)

LOVE IT!

I’m thinking she did 3 stocking knit scarves, then braided them.

I’m in the process of knitting a scarf right now, but my biggest issue is time. I just don’t have the time to knit! WHY?! Why is life so hard?! LOL
