Faux Shearling Wedges

by jennine on December 12, 2009

Yesterday I had made my return visit to San Francisco. For those of you who are relatively new to the blog… the first year or so, The Coveted was based in SF.. as I had been living here more on than off since 1996. Since I was born in the Bay Area, I can’t quite remember my first trip, but I do remember exactly when I fell in love with the city, I was 17, and my uncle took me to Haight Street, and with all the vintage shops, the crazy people on the street… and a friend of mine who ran away from high school, just about jumped me on the street. I knew at that moment, I had found home. Since we moved to Germany back in March of 2008, I hadn’t been back for a visit, and I couldn’t really be prepared for how much I was going to miss it here. But already I feel like I’m home.

Everybody is saying the weather is freezing, but coming form Korea and Chicago, I have to say that I’m actually comfortably warm, warm enough to make my first venture out of house and bed for over a week. Rocky had a meeting all morning, so I had to hover around Union Square, visiting my old shopping routes, and well, to say the least I did get a few things. Perhaps making up for the lack of shopping I did in Korea, where I basically got two pairs of shoes, one of them is the wedge boots, with faux shearling lining. Actually the whole wedge is faux, or in this case, very real chemicals… a smell which took a few days to air out. Whew.

I am not quite sure what inspired me to buy anything that looked like shearling, shearling shoes were all over the streets of Seoul, and I hadn’t even considered any of them. but these particular wedges, I saw on the first day, I instantly liked, and couldn’t shake them out of my brain, so I got them. I’m not really sure how much of my wardrobe they’ll fit into, but it was great to wear them around the city yesterday. They really do well for wearing around, without being too impractical or too frumpy. Which is a big reason why wedges are so great.

Well, as long as they’re somewhat warm - and waterproof - I reckon you’ll be wearing them often this winter! I love them…

Welcome home! Aw, sounds like you left your heart in San Francisco. I moved here to go to Berkeley almost 15 years ago. (Geez!) We tried to leave once & were back in 6 months, currently residing in beautiful Marin County. It’s a wonderful day for a stroll at Union Square, especially in those fabulous new wedges. Love em! Watch out for Forever 21 on a Saturday, though. CHAOS! OMIGosh, I suddenly have a strong desire to have a martini at the Top of the Mark. Enjoy your visit!

Oh, and it WAS a lot colder earlier this week! I went for a run & it was 27 degrees w/ snow on Mt Tam. Brrr! :)

Not sure how long you will be here, but there’s going to be an exhibition of Cartier jewelry at the Legion of Honor, opening on the 19th. Can’t wait! Not to mention the King Tut exhibit at the De Young right now.

Ooh, I got shoes from Old Navy that took a week to air out. Stinky! I would consider San Francisco to be relatively warm too.

I second Nickie Frye — it WAS a lot colder earlier this week. It had that early winter in the midwest feel. I’m glad you’re finally feeling a little better. Hopefully we can get together while you’re in town! Those boots are gorgeous btw!

I love these. I especially love the wedge heel. It really keeps them from looking too Ugg-ish. I can’t stand those freaking boots. They need to disappear.

It’s refreshing to read something so positive about San Francisco. I just moved to Berkeley with my husband in September & transferred my job out here & I’m still trying to fall head-over-heels in love with it. Maybe it’s the recent rain spells! I’m happy here but I’m not settled yet. So it’s really nice to read this, thank you! & Where on earth did you find those wedges?? I’ve been searching all over for the perfect sherling wedge hiking-esque boots & I can’t seem to find the perfect pair anywhere, online, in person, wherever. Yours are it!

I bought a pair of faux leather pumps one time from small vintage shop and had to air them out too…it made me question my next faux purchase, lol! But these wedges are so versatile and perfect for snow fall weather (just be sure the bottoms are slip resistant) ;-)

I’m not usually into shearling (there was an overabundance of shearling in various, tacky forms at the college I was attending a couple years ago), but I really love these wedges. Like *really* love. (I can totally see why they caught your eye.) hehe! I think it’s the slightly tough exterior that reminds me of those old, WWI aviator helmets. Kind of offbeat, but still tailored and modern enough to easily work into your wonderful outfits. Fantastic buy, Jennine!

(Glad to hear you’re feeling a bit better too! :)
