Lovely beauty gifts that give back

by Sonja on December 18, 2009

Tis the season for holiday gift giving. Have you been doing a bit of shopping? Among the gajillion choices out there, it’s nice to see items that benefit great causes, gifts that give back, so to speak. Along with the cool stuff from the Elle/Fashion Delivers 12 Days of Chic collaboration that Jennine wrote about earlier this week, there are some excellent, charitable beauty treats to consider. Here are some that caught my eye this year.

The Body Shop Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream

Buy The Body Shop Soft Hands Kind Heart Hand Cream ($10) and $6 will be donated to End Child Prostitution, Child Pornography and Trafficking of Children for Sexual Purposes (ECPAT) to combat child exploitation.

Remember: hand creams make excellent stocking stuffers. Who couldn’t use a good hand cream this time of year? This non-greasy cream has a fresh citrus scent and is made with angelica extract, known for its protective and soothing qualities, and organic, community-trade olive oil to condition and soften.

L’Oréal Paris Color of Hope Cosmetics Bag

With the purchase of the limited-edition L’Oréal Paris Color of Hope Cosmetics Bag ($29.50), $5 will be donated to the Ovarian Cancer Research Fund. This collection includes a silver cosmetics bag filled with flattering shades of mauve, plum and teal, the color symbolizing ovarian cancer research.

There are two Wear Infinite Eye Shadow Quads in Petals of Promise and Bouquet of Strength (good names, huh?), a 6 Hour Never Fail Lip Gloss in Color of Hope, and a Colour Riche Lipstick in Color of Hope. For more information about The Color of Hope program, visit lorealcolorofhope.com.

Aveda Gift Sets

Aveda has a slew of gift sets ($19-$70) this year that help families in Nepal by helping guide micro-enterprises in making and marketing paper handcrafted from the sustainable Lokta shrub. The company reports that their collaboration with villages and organizations in Nepal have helped families stay intact and afford schooling, women are participating in success for the first time, and a cycle of poverty is being broken.

Aveda holiday gift sets are adorned with the Nepali paper to support these enterprises. To learn more about the program, watch their inspiring video.

Do Tell

Do you look for products that benefit charitable causes? Picked up any great ones for the holidays? Do tell.

Happy Holidays!

What a great roundup, Sonja! And as a regular user of Aveda’s Hand and Foot Relief creams, I can’t recommend those enough.

❤ Jennine, isn’t that cute!
❤ Retro Chick, that’s right. I forgot about Avon and all their breast cancer work. I just had to use that pic when I saw it. I think it kinda hypnotized me. :)

georgienyc, what great ideas! I especially love orphaned elephant idea. You just reminded that I once got chickens one year – well, I got a gift of chickens that went to someone else. :)
