Holiday Camp

holiday

Do you really get into the holiday spirit? It normally takes me a while to get into it, and this year it took a little longer than usual.  It’s not like I don’t like holidays, but  after my favorite, Halloween… then Thanksgiving my second favorite, by the time Christmas rolls around, I’m getting pretty close to holiday overload, and New Years? Just roll me up in a blanket like a burrito and call it a day (unless you got some decent fireworks!). Late last night I arrived at my mom’s home in Southern California. So all day, I’ve been hanging out with the family, doing my laundry, as of course I arrived with a suitcase full of dirty clothes. My niece and I made sugar cookies this afternoon…Although I did have a lot of powdered sugar and flour on my shirt, that’s just the print of the tee…
Our cookies are pretty campy, and lo-tech.  We did make the frosting and cookies from SCRATCH ! I’d like to say that my niece applied the frosting, but she had to go, and well that was up to me. It still looks pretty much like a 7-year-old did it. Yes… that’s a green reindeer in the uper left corner. You’ve seen green reindeer loads of times! Loads!
I got bored towards the end… and might have even ‘hid’ a few cookies just so I wouldn’t have to put frosting on them.

Then in the evening, of course taking a look at all the nieghbor’s lights. When you live in the city, you don’t see houses or apartment buildings decked out like the houses in the suburbs. The over the top christmas light was something that I missed in a beautiful German holiday… I know it’s tacky to have a 9-foot inflatable penguin in your front lawn, but it makes me smile a bit. And I like walking around seeing how people decorate their houses with pretty lights.

The cookies are so pretty! I think you did a great job with the frosting… I never bother with making designs. It takes too much time/effort, and by then, all I want to do is eat the darn things! :P

I love your cookies!!! :D I’m a huge fan of campy cookies; you should see the sugar cookies I made this year. lol. ;)

I got a good laugh out of your comment about New Years. I pretty much feel the same way! Although, since my husband and I started dating, I’ve spent every New Years Eve with his family (his sister’s birthday is that day), which is a test of my ability to stay up past 11. haha.

Baking cookies with a lovely little girl sounds like a great way to spend an afternoon. I’m having great difficulty finding any Christmas Spirit this year, but I’m hoping that some time spent with my friend’s two daughters on Christmas eve might help. Love your shots of the Christmas decorations!
