Ania Kuczynska: Out of the box

by jennine on December 28, 2009

At best, fashion photography transforms a dress on a rack and brings it to life in our imagination, at worst it makes us flip the page with ennui. There is so much of it, often times I have a hard time separating something really special from all the rest of the pretty pictures we see around, but these photo sculptures by Szymon Roinski and Kasia Korzeniecka teamed up to create these for Polish designer Ania Kuczynska SS09′s collection. Inspired by Cubism, “We tried to break 2 dimensional sense of photography as well as cubist painters in 20’s tried to break 2 dimensions in painting.”  each sculpture is a geometric shape with the photographic image on the surface, then reassembled to create the final image, truly bringing the clothing alive in our imagination…

Love the visual splendour - more of a brand statement than product centric visuals. I do think it is entertaining but as a stylist I would be frustrated as the clothes are lost, merely touched upon.

yeah, i can see that… but i think it might have more to do with the clothes, i’m sure the same concept with more exciting styling would be a whole different story!

Well, I have to say that the photography technique is a lot more interesting than the clothing itself. Sorry, but the clothes are a little ho-hum for me. The cubism is amazing though!!!

A great deal of fashion photography provokes ennui but these beautiful images are like a cold shower, my senses are alert and I’m inspired, thanks so much for sharing them.
