Shoe D’Jour : Footloose Title Sequence

by jennine on January 17, 2010

We’ve all seen it… Footloose. Probably the only movie in existence where Kevin Bacon isn’t totally creepy.  And if you haven’t… it’s pretty entertaining, not the best movie in the world, but for ‘cheesy movie night’ it’s pretty fun. I have a lot of those nights! Well, a girl’s gotta rest her brain somehow!

I hadn’t seen the film for a while, and since I fell asleep watching it, I’m not even sure if I’ve seen it all the way through. But seeing the opening credits again, was just probably the most fun, something about shoes when they are dancing makes puts a smile on my face. Particularly the festive socks with heels, polka dots, gingham ankle socks with silver sneakers, turquoise nylons with fuchsia pumps, so lovely! And the men’s shoes… copper dress shoes with jeans! Why don’t more men wear those? Seriously, I think all shoes should be presented like the opening credits of Footloose….

Have you ever seen jeans cut out to show off your boots like this? Something about this idea intrigues me…

I have always LOVED the opening credits for footloose. I love the socks and pumps too and the way the feet each dance suits the shoe choices just right.
ps. when are ankles socks going to come back? I wish there were options in stores, especially the girly ones with little fold down ruffles!

Glee! I’m so glad that someone else loves that sequence as much as I do…. and it’s because of Lori Singer’s character that I own red cowboy boots…

They’re great! I even went all authentic and bought them on a road trip from Bloomington to Moab Utah…some little Cowboy Boot! western store on the road side in Missouri….

The shoes tell so much about the character, love it! I love those 80′s movies…the soundtracks are amazing & cheerful. And we could all use the “cheesy” factor from time to time:)

I was weirded out seeing Bacon on the Critics Choice awards talking about the “six degrees of Kevin Bacon.” I guess if that were my claim to fame I’d co-opt it too but it was a little peculiar.

haha… that is such a weird game even on it’s own! as for kevin bacon himself… i get weirded out just by thinking about him.

I love the opening sequence to Footloose! Although that screencap of the disembodied foot with the polka dot socks and the pump is a bit odd. ;)

Fun fact: the town in that movie is actually based on a town about 45 mins-an hour away from where I grew up, where dancing was illegal until…actually I think it might still be illegal!

oh come on! do you realize how hard it is to get a still of quickly moving feet?

that’s so strange that it’s illegal to dance in some places… really strange.

I think I spy an old pair of Tretorns! Those were THE shoe in my neighborhood, along with Top-Siders.

I haven’t seen the movie but I love the shoes! They are hilarious, the first thing that made me smile this morning :)

I’m glad Michelle notices the disembodied foot too, I thought it was just me!

I am loving the pink pumps and grey tights. I think my bedroom was decorated that colour combination in the 80s!
