Afternoon Antique Shopping

Sunday we decided to make a trip across the Bay to the Alameda Antique Market, in search of furniture, housewares, all those little things you don’t realize you have laying around the house until you don’t have it. The last week, Rocky and I have been sleeping on an air mattress and eating all our meals out of a non-stick skillet set we picked up at Ross. We have plates now, but it took a while!

The rules are in flea markets that you have to get there early, if you don’t arrive early you end up browsing over left-overs. We arrived around 2pm, which is basically midnight by flea market standards. From what I could see from the people who were leaving the market there were a lot of great finds, but Rocky and I just wandered around the browsing around. I found a crushed straw hat that could use a re-shaping, I’ll show you more details when I fix it up a bit more, and wow, do I love straw hats!

At the market I ran into Erin from Calivintage…she was absolutely darling! I loved her Southwest inspired outfit, her take with denim on denim breaking it up with a poncho, and a gorgeous turquoise ring, she said was a gift from The Clothes Horse. We stood around talking so long I think the flea market packed up and we almost missed the ferry back to San Francisco, so even though we didn’t get new things for the home, we did have a wonderful day.

I must have spent half my life in the Bay Area, over half my life, and never have I taken a ferry to the East Bay, nor have I been so close to the harbor, it was actually really cool to see some of the more industrial parts of the bay, it was somehow beautiful.

Rusty steel looks that like it’s bleeding….. on sunny spring day! Sandals on bare feet! Straw hats!
What’s the use of living next to worlds 2nd biggest harbor, it’s still freezing…

Ok, I’ve never been to that flea market but I HAVE been on a tour of the port & one of those enormous container ships. Really incredible. It’s funny b/c someone else mentioned that darned flea market to me today. Not sure how I’ve managed to miss it all these years. Dork. Anyway, cute lil hat. Can’t wait to see the straw one. :)

Oh, how I wish I was going to the Bay Area for my spring break! I have a friend that lives in East Bay, I stayed with him last year while visiting my mother in Davis. Anywho, what a great hat!

I had no idea there *was* a ferry to the Easy Bay! D’oh.

I love the bay area. A bit too windy for my taste, but so so gorgeous! And there’s some great vintage shopping.
