Ella Moss Snake Print Dress on All Snakes Day

by jennine on March 16, 2010

Tomorrow is St. Patrick’s Day… legend has it it that St. Patrick drove all the snakes out of Ireland. Who knows? The fact is, I’ve never been much into the holiday, even though I love Ireland,  I’m not much for beer drinking and, well, green? I need more green in my wardrobe. The other day, on the bus I heard this guy planning on helping the snakes reclaim the holiday, which could be a nice idea, if the snakes actually cared that much about people getting sloshed wearing plastic green top hats.

UPDTATE: Punk Glam Queen explains: There were never snakes in Ireland. Those “snakes” were a metaphor for the indigenous Pagans. Its believed that St. Patrick drove people their deaths because they wouldn’t convert to Christianity. That’s probably what the guy on the bus was talking about as there has been a huge resurgence of people interested in and following pre-Christian religions.

Where are you when it comes to animal prints? Leopard made it’s way back, zebra too… I’ve always admired them from afar, but chicken out at the last second. Well, except that one jumpsuit with 4 different animal prints. That was awesome beyond all awesome, therefore an exception. Tasteful animal prints, I’m not sure if it really exists, and who cares about tastefulness anyway? Longing for something animal inspired, I snagged this lovely Ella Moss snake print dress on sale at Shopbop a while back and had to get it. It’s taken some time to wear it properly, as it was intended for NYFW, but it never happened. So here it is… a dress can’t stay in my closet for long without getting dragged out!

The other day my husband asked why I wear so much brown and blue lately… and I can’t seem to get enough.

ella moss really does make comfy dresses!

Alexandra March 16, 2010 at 12:39 pm

I’m feeling blue prints lately too - great outfit. I love that you paired it with a similar-print clutch!
Speaking of St Paddy though…are there really NO snakes in Ireland? I always thought that was strange.

jennine March 16, 2010 at 3:35 pm

thanks mp! blue&brown is my new favorite thing!

Krameymartin March 16, 2010 at 1:12 pm

I love that dress with the blue. I feel like I’ve been wearing a lot of brown and blue lately too. Perhaps it’s the fact that we are just coming off the melancholy months (Jan/Feb)?

I really love the way that you styled that dress! Very cute! I’m personally not a big fan of snakeskin for myself, because I don’t think I can wear them correctly, but I love it when others style it nicely.

Superb outfit!!!

Beth March 16, 2010 at 2:12 pm

I am all about animal prints, especially leopard patterns. I haven’t successfully created an outfit with contrasting animal prints, but they work so well as accent pieces.

oh yeah, mixing animals can be tricky, sometimes they don’t get along!

Nickie Frye March 16, 2010 at 2:32 pm

Wow, a linen motorcycle jacket, very interesting. I like the whole look, though I never seem to wear animal prints myself. Not sure why, but I actually don’t think I own one piece of animal print clothing. Weird!

I love the spring flowers! Here, where I live there are still bits of snow lying around! How does it actually feel to use the word husband? Did you have to get used to it? From my questions you can gather that I never used the word myself.

jennine March 16, 2010 at 4:04 pm

snow! i kind of miss it… but that only means you have your blossoms on their way!

Great outfit, I love snake print when its done well! BTW, here’s a bit of history: There were never snakes in Ireland.

Peldyn March 16, 2010 at 7:18 pm

That is a really pretty dress! It looks great on you :)

I think the only animal print I have is a pair of leopard print shoes. Oh wait, I have a black and white sort of giraffe print blouse. I have never worn it.

I love how you gave a little twist to the St P’s Day theme with the snake skin print. I like the zebra print the best but I really only like to wear accessories with prints like that on them. I’d say that dress is pretty tasteful!

I love zebra and snake. And the current cheetah trend is great because it’s a good alternative for someone who isn’t into leopard. Except for panties, I’ll take any animal on my undies! Heh heh.

I did just buy both snake and cheetah shoes. Kitten and high heels.

However I would LOVE that dress…. drooool.

I’m going to link to your post for a related inspiration!

I’m a big fan of animal prints, though I tend to save reptile for shoes and accessories. But this print, in those glorious blues and purples? Utterly stunning.

Wow, I bought the same dress from Shopbop in January… I love how you styled it! What shoes are you wearing with it? I have some black snake texture CK Parma platforms that I wore with mine. I was worried it was too much reptile, but I’m glad to see I’m not the only one!
