Spring Fever

by jennine on March 29, 2010

It happens every year… spring fever. As much as the rest of the year, I’ll go for dark, rich colors, and tell people ‘pastels make me feel like a fraud.’ when the blossoms start blooming and the sun starts breaking through the clouds making some beautiful crisp, sweet smelling days, I get a little loopy and dreamy eyed. It’s true! Looking in my closet, I’m thinking there aren’t enough flowery dresses, chiffons, and laces. Those are the things that seem most appropriate these days.

Last week, I happened upon H&M’s new Garden Collection. It was exactly, exactly what I was thinking. Flowery prints, ruffles, laces, many of which were marked sustainable in some way, organic cotton, recycled polyester, tencel.  Even though it was really exciting, I didn’t have time to try things on, so instead I snagged a load of accessories. a flowery, Frida Kahlo-esque headband (what it would look like on a dark-haired woman my age)… a headband to cover my hair on no-wash days, and some bangles. I haven’t worn much of it except the navy flower I got, well, because it’s really a nice way to add some fanciness to my hair without being over-the-top… but they certainly make me happy, and feeling the moment when I look at them.

Yesterday, I went back to see if there was anything left to try on… someone had told me that they sold out of a lot of the pieces on the first day. Maybe that’s the key to finding the goods at H&M? Well, when I went back, looking back at many of the pieces, I couldn’t bring myself to try anything on again, as half the stuff looked like it was going to fall apart on the racks. I don’t know what it is with me and H&M… why I keep going back, it’s like a bad/good relationship with a somewhat charismatic ex. It looks like a good idea at first until I get reminded of why I stopped in the first place. That said, I’m glad I picked up these flowery accessories when I was under that spring fever haze.

I just love this time of year and the fashions that come with it!
It’s all so cheerful and lovely.
I’m really impressed with the new H&M collection actually and luckily my sister gave me a gift card for my birthday so a little floral spree is definitely required.

I broke up with H&M a long time ago. They have cute stuff but I always feel like it falls apart within 3 washes. The only thing I’ve been able to keep are their coats. I wanted to check out the garden collection but by now I’m sure it’s all gone. Oh well.

I’ve always been so girly - love love love springtime florals. :-) i bought a bunch of the flower hair pins. Adorable - yet not completely age innappropriate for a 30-something lady.

H & M and I have broken up and gotten back together several times over the years. Right now we are on a break, and I am seeing more of … Zara.

Although I haven’t been to an H&M since I moved from Virginia, I know exactly what you mean about the love/hate relationship. ;) It used to be my favorite place for cheap fixes, but then I stopped because things just didn’t look well made (even for the bargain basement prices). Still, I miss the accessories racks-there were some good things there!

I almost bought those bangles this weekend! Cute! I agree on the sometimes shoddy quality of h&m, but for trendy pieces that will go out of style far before the item falls apart, h&m is gold!

Oh Jennine! Love the accessories and can’t wait to see you rock he pastel flower! H&M is a tough one for me. They never have all the good stuff at my local store and I’ll never line up for the new collections (yup, there’s always a line outside the store). Their accessories seem to be the best scores!

I’ve got a serious case of Spring fever. I started cleaning out my closets and bureaus last night and putting away my cold weather gear and am fastly realizing I HAVE NOTHING TO WEAR! :)

Heck yes to all things floral. I just replaced the buttons on my grey suit with porcelain floral buttons I picked up at the V&A. I’ve also got a little collection of Liberty print handkerchiefs I’ve started rummaging through vintage shops for! It is just so appropriately Spring and wonderfully timeless :)

Autum is my favorite, but every year I get a little Spring fever too and start to long for pastel florals- and big blossoms to wear on my lapel!

Do you have the H&M garden collection in USA? I have to say I really liked it, pure spring, soft colors and flowers, and organic!

I am feeling this spring so much! Thanks for the Frida pic, she is such an inspiring icon

Love the accessories. And I feel the same way when spring arrives. I’m ready to wear bright colors, put flowers in my hair…and some years even think for a brief moment that I want to plant a garden. Last year during my spring excitement I ended up buying three pairs of bright wedges. This year it was big flower hair clips. Gotta love spring. ;)

That bangle is tops! I love H&M, but sometimes it’s not worth the dressing room lines.

I used to have such an aversion to florals… but I adore that bangle! I can’t wait to see how you style the flower accessories, I have a feeling you will manage to make me want to try them.

Hehe, I feel the same way about H&M. The closest ones to me are in the Beverly Center and on Hollywood Blvd, and the parking awfulness there is enough of a deterrent in and of itself to keep me away, so it works. When I lived in NY though… oh boy. It was tough.
Do you have a Flower District in SF? We have one in Downtown LA, and along with the most amazing *real* flowers, you can also get just the most incredible silk ones, of all varieties, and they look really really real and are all at wholesale prices. That’s the secret of those LA etsy sellers who sell flower clips for upwards of $10! Just a tip from me to you :)
