Casual Friday…Double Denim

by jennine on April 2, 2010

denim

You asked for it. So here it is…. my version of the double denim that’s been sweeping the interwebs these days. Wendy B. has been doing a lot of perpetuating the denim obsession, and I’ve been tinkering around with it on the weekends for some time now. Not really showing it because other than the ‘OMG I NEVER THOUGHT I WOULD DO DOUBLE DENIM IN A MILLION TRILLION YEARS.’ The outfits themselves had little curb appeal other than the obvious one of comfort and ease. I bought a denim shirt at H&M back in January and have gotten quite a few wears out of this number…though I’m thinking it’s time to move up to a denim or chambray shirt that’s a little more substantial as this one wrinkles when I bend my elbow.

How do you make double denim work? Well, it’s really about attitude, and using different colors of denim. As I was photographing this, I saw two old lesbians both wearing double denim hanging around. I don’t think they were following any fashion news recently, but they knew you don’t try to match your denims..they just matched each other.. which is another story all together. Should partners match? Definitely a separate post.

Another way to break things up, is to integrate other non-denim pieces, like this popcorn sweater… I may have told some of you I was going to burn it after seeing a picture of me looking particularly heavier than I am, but no, I kept it, and I’m wearing it in an outfit some of you may proclaim as a faux pas.

Anyway… so there it is, double denim, as if causal jeans Friday wasn’t enough, now it’s causal jean shirt Friday!

Share and Enjoy:

Love the casual chic look of this outy! I have done double denim with jeans and…a denim blazer - just different fades so it doesn’t look like a “suit” ;-) The flower in the hair is adorbs. XOXO

Good thing I was already planning a follow-up post or I’d be like “Shit, I have to do a follow-up post.”

this is the best denim on denim I’ve seen to date. I like the different color tones, and also the different weights of the denim, and the sweater + bangle to break things up. Also - you kept both denim pieces casual (i like the over-size + untucked-ness of the shirt) - which is key. Great job making denim on denim look good!

I have never seen a needlepoint purse that large before in all my days of thrifting!! I must say, I am wildly, wildly covetous. And of course you look spectacular, as always. I love the popcorn sweater for contrast in texture, I really think it makes the outfit.

The way you’ve paired the different denims makes it current.
Hmm.. I may have to rethink denim on denim now. Perhaps give it a try.

Oh my !!! What a fabulous bag!!! I absolutely love it. I too have a ton of vintage bags and should post them more often!!!! I am a newbie “older” blogger who shifts from vintage to trendy to bohemian. I guess the world is eclectic. I love to meet lovely bloggers who appreciate a great vintage bag!!! Stop by sometime- we can talk bags!

I kind of adore the popcorn sweater, actually, and you’re just too freaking cute in this getup!

I just thrifted a chambray shirt the other day, and I’ve got some great new indigo-wash skinnies that I’m planning to debut the look with, so clearly I’m a fan!
