At last week’s trunk show, I happened upon a New York based accessories designer, Crumley, headed by Brian Crumley (pictured left) has a diverse spectrum of collection as well as collaborations with VPL, Rachel Comey, and Serial Cultura. At the show, the thing that caught my eye was artfully mixed textiles with jewelry, silk necklaces using the fabrics from Serial Cultura’s fall collection, bits of ribbon, zippers and leather. Each piece is a mixed media sensation.
I quite liked the mixture of texture, the silk necklaces had a surprising weight to them that made them more substantial than pieces of fabric alone. The artful clasps and are as much statement as the rest of the piece. The glass bobble necklace reminded me of a delightful glass yo-yo, and the zippers, well who can get enough of zippers? Though it’s not so new to use fabrics as jewelry, I do really appreciate the knotting to create a sculptural effect, something I often try at home and never can seem to get right. Perhaps that’s why sailors had to learn how to tie knots…it’s not as intuitive as you think!

Yes. I really really like his line of jewelry. I am always in the market for something on the unusual side of artistic fashion.

Always envious of people who create jewellery . What a fantastic way to be creative and then to see others wearing it.
Oh, too bad! I just went to his website and it looks like they are shutting it down… I really liked the “yoyo” necklace too, as well as the zipper jewelry and guatemalan fabric necklace, second from last photo. Where can you get it now?

I know I sound completely obsessed at this point, but I really really love this stuff! It’s tough to find indie jewelry designers who use fabric in a creative but refined way. I find a lot of it usually just looks like those cheapie recycled fabric woven mats you get at the dollar store. Flimsy and not particularily interesting.. But this is just wonderful! Same for the glass beads…goregous. I’m totally in love with this designer now. Thank you
No WAY! You can’t buy it on their site - WHAT! I was so excited to get some of the zipper bracelets. So sad right now! Love your pieces Crumley!
