Current/Elliott Captain Trousers + Valeria

norwegian Wood Valeria Necklace

First off I want to say a big thank you for those that commented last week, it really helped to have your support, and I’m going to try my best to keep going, even if The Coveted is going to be scaled back a bit for a little while. Monday’s are a great day to put things in perspective, that’s for sure.

So, back to business!

Ever since I first laid eyes on these wooden necklaces by Norwegian Wood, I have lusted over them. Made with left over Mahogany lumber from Furni clocks, they have a distinctive tribal aesthetic while completely experimental. When Angie Johnson sent a nice email offering me one of them (well, I was also in process of buying one of her dresses, you’ll see later this week) I couldn’t say no. At first I wasn’t sure if the large wooden plates would be “too much” but the day they arrived, I wore it with a causal outfit (much like one I’m wearing today) and the necklace got three compliments from various people. It’s bold, yet wearable, and adds a lot of character to even the most casual of outfits. This I like.

Also, in shopping news (I’ve been stocking up lately) I finally caved in and got the Current/Elliott Captain’s Trousers on Shopbop, and I’m going to do a full review on eat, sleep, denim blog later this week… but since my Current/Elliot showroom visit, I’ve been obsessed with getting a pair of more relaxed jeans… but then got sidetracked by twill, especially since it’s army green. I tell you, this is the second time I’ve worn them since Saturday, and methinks it’s my new favorite pair of pants. Who knew a dress girl could be so smitten?

Wearing: Valeria Necklace courtesy of Norwegian Wood • Cardigan courtesy of InhabitNY • Remixed old teeshirt • Captain’s Trousers Current/Elliott • Shoes: Marc Jacobs • Belt: Vintage

I absolutely LOVE the pants, and your entire outfit is great - I think one of my favorites! Glad you will be keeping The Coveted going, even in an abbreviated manner. Will always have something to look forward to ;)

thanks gail! :)

The necklace is the perfect accessories for your lovely outfit! The shoes are to dye for, too. Your style always inspires me.

oh thanks…these shoes def need to come out more. :)

Of course me being the accessories blogger I’m in love with the necklace and the shoes. Army green is one of those colors I love when I put on yet I never seem to pick up on a regular basis. You’re making me want to pull my army green wide leg trousers out…after this heatwave in DC is over.

and enjoy the summer while you have it. we still have not gotten very many warm days… guess we’ll get them come winter.

wow-one of my favorite looks so far! it just works. on a side note, i am in my 30s and a san francisco-transplant to boot, so i love the perspective your blog brings to personal style. i can imagine that it becomes wearisome, but whenever you post, i’ll enjoy reading it. @lshitch on twitter

Yeiiii!!! I´m happy to know that you are not saying goodbye to this blog!!! :D
As usual my dear, your outfit is adorable. I´m sure I could just give you a bunch of boring and non-appealing clothes and you would turn them into something totally awesome!

jennine July 19, 2010 at 8:38 pm

oh yeah, i’m just going to scale back, hopefully that works!

Amy July 19, 2010 at 4:32 pm

The necklace is my favorite part of the outfit! It helps that it’s laying on top of a simple shirt. It’s too bad Norwegian Wood is currently closed; I’d like to get an idea of their pricing.

Thank you for keeping The Coveted! I started reading a few years ago but have only recently started commenting. I love your blog. :)

Annie Spandex July 19, 2010 at 7:12 pm

Ah, I love it!! On its own I’m not sure if I would go as gaga as I do over other NW stuff, but seeing it the way you’ve styled it makes me understand!

jennine July 19, 2010 at 8:39 pm

haha, do you mean de-styled it? i feel like most of her stuff is styled so perfectly, i really took it down several notches, but i kind of like it that way.

Katie July 19, 2010 at 8:00 pm

I’ve read your blog for awhile but this is the first outfit that made me comment! You were made for twill pants! Seriously, this is my fave outfit today. I feel like anyone can wear a cool dress but to make casual pants look so put together and stylish- you’ve got to know what you are doing.

jennine July 19, 2010 at 8:40 pm

oh thanks for commenting! i’m also loving twill lately…and I’ll need a new pair, you know, just for the rotation.

I really enjoy this outfit and find myself completely inspired by it. I can’t wait till things cool down enough around here so I can pull off an outfit similar to this one. Oh and if you are ever feeling tired of those shoes you can send them my way and I will love and wear them till I die! After all my birthday is next week ;)

i was going to put this in the previous post but i’ll just put it here. you have been blogging for a while, it’s so understandable to want to change things up. you do so much! and sorting IFB out, i can’t imagine the hours that that takes. i’m happy to see you reincarnate however it pleases you, but don’t go away! i have a feeling you should focus on what is best for you monetarily. you’ve seriously given of yourself beyond the call of duty and all that. oddly i feel like i am just starting to understand my blog after 5 years?! but there are a lot of “buts” there.

AngieMontreal July 23, 2010 at 10:13 am

I love how you styled this outfit, if I saw you walking down the street I’d think “that girl is so cool, and she seems to not be trying at all….she must roll out of bed looking like that!” For real. Also, I now realize that a neutral coloured loose tank is something that’s lacking from my wardrobe…must get on that.
