Shoe D’Jour: Wanged

Love shoes. Love sales. What can be better than shoes on sale?  I don’t know… world peace? That’s better than shoes on sale.

But since that hasn’t happened yet, we can take a break from figuring out how to save the world. Last week, I caught wind of the Alexander Wang Sample Sale. I have never been to one of those famed sample sales where you can pick up a pair of designer shoes for $50, and my mind was filled with all kinds of wild ideas of what we would find.

People warned me it was chaos. That there was a line around the block and everything good had run out.  But I went anyway. In Soho where everyone is beautiful, I arrived at the location, and there was maybe 5 people in line. I got in, checked my bag, and it seemed pretty tame. I’ve seen more chaos at H&M on a Saturday. There were loads of half dressed people trying everything on. I picked up a few tops a dress from the T by Alexander Wang collection, and wandered to the shoe rack which looked empty.

The guy behind the counter asked what size. Lucky for me, out of the last 5 pairs of shoes, three of them were my size, and he just marked them down to $50 each. I bought this pair in navy blue and in a lighter blue. I tell you, they are sexy! Anyway, I got them both… it really is love. I’ve worn them a few times since getting them last Friday.

Afterwards, we were hanging around… people watching in Soho is so much fun. Everyone was beautiful and meticulously ‘effortless’ in their style. My favorite was watching this girl hanging out texting and talking on the phone while her older sister was in shopping. When they came out, the sister was so happy to have an Alexander Wang piece, it was some kind of gathered hooded bolero/jacket. At that age…Sometimes I wish my parents had taken me to sample sales. What a life!
