New York Fashion Week: Getting Ready For Evolving Influence

by jennine on September 6, 2010

Last week I arrived in New York…. well, technically Brooklyn. We’re getting ready for the Evolving Influence conference and all the Fashion Week goodness that’s going on next week.

Staying in New York for an entire month, I had only brought one suitcase, so everything has to last… a month. Fashion Week can be crazy, it’s a bit of a circus where everyone is dressed to the nines, but the days are long, and really long. Since working super long days getting ready, I’ve not exactly been the most fashion forward, but there are ways to do it.

Jeggings… I’ve talked about my love for jeggings before, and in real life I think several of my friends have been turned on to jeggings ever since I got a few samples from Charley 5.0 for review. I haven’t done the review yet, somehow it got caught between the ‘testing’ stage and lost in the craziness of planning for the conference. The truth is, I wear them all the time. Right now my favorite pair is the Baby Snap pull on denim legging (I couldn’t find them in black online).

Pretty Blouses… I just splurged on this Joie Elvia lace blouse for fashion week, and I love it! I wore it today to give it a ‘test’ run you know, just in case I didn’t like the way it looked on me… but I have to say, I’ve bought lots of lace tops in the past, but this is the first one that’s not itchy. Holy moly.. it’s a new world, I had no idea lace could be not itchy. For some reason I forgot to pack more accessories, so all I have is the Liz Larios necklace Macala from Fashionably Marketing Me gave me a while back. It’s one of my favorites right now.

Boots for Walking… My favorite walking shoes died. Well, they still hobble around, but they definitely won’t fly at fashion week. I just got a pair of Jeffrey Campbell ankle boots. I know, why not get the crazy Jeffrey Campbell shoes, but I need to walk around you know? These have nice cushioning on the inside and kinda feel like sneakers, without actually being sneakers.

Smiles… I don’t know what it is, but as much as I try, the lack of sleep, the over stimulation of people around, being away from home, but I always seem to be a bit tired, with puffy eyes and yeah.. puffy eyes. Smiling goes a long way when it comes to not looking tired. One can not stress enough what a smile can do. I’ve also been wearing some fake eyeglasses every now and then on those particular puffy eye days.

Anyway, the next week, we’re going to have a lot of fun stuff going on!

Well I am happy you are smiling. 3 days! Can you believe it is happening all over again? I am very excited. I agree with the walkable boots. I am bringing my Costume National boots with me. I posted on my blog about my internship I am doing: http://iplayfaves.blogspot.com/2010/09/i-have-some-fun-news.html

Great look. I wish I could find a pair of jeggings I could wear, I’m worried about feeling strangled since I bought a pair a couple of years ago and almost asphyxiated. The red lipstick looks great and you really dont seem tired at all, you look seriously pretty. Good luck on NYFW.

You look great! I leave for NYC in 36 hours and have been pondering what to pack all weekend. I have completely fallen for your JC boots (I have a newfound obsession with his shoes and also with the Jeff Silverman boots you built). And I love, love, love your answer to puffy eyes - you look tres chic in your specs!

Can’t wait to meet you Thursday!

Love, P

I almost didn’t recognize you with your glasses, madame ! You look good with them on.

And a whole month in New York ? What’s going on after NYFW ?

Anyway, you look adorable, madame. I can’t wait for this season’s EI, even if it’s from afar. Big hugs to you ! xoxoxo

K-Line September 6, 2010 at 10:44 am

Don’t you look adorable in those glasses! Very France goes to NYC. And I agree about the jeggings. You may recall I got my first pair about a year and a half ago and I have NEVER looked back. They make regular skinnies feel like torture (not that I don’t love skinnies anyway).

Casey September 7, 2010 at 3:19 am

I love the last photo-you look so pretty! :) The lace top is really stunning; a good piece to have in a one-suitcase-wardrobe (I’m totally in awe that you can manage one suitcase of clothes for a month-I tend to have the horrible problem of over packing). I’ve actually been toying with the idea of making a simple lace/netting top to layer over things, and this look is really inspiring me; there is something autumn-like about it without the heavy layers (which I won’t be able to wear for months still! *cries*).

Good luck with wrapping up all the last minute details for the IFB conference!!!!

I LOVE those jeggings! I have developed a major crush on treggings and skinny pants, but those black jeggings look like they’ll be the next on the list :-)

I would love to attend the conference, but unfortunately I won’t be able to… AGAIN :-(

Crossing my fingers that I can attend the next one!

You look adorable, as always. I’ve been trying to find a jean or legging with detail at the hem like this for some time-everything is either too long or too tight!

miss sophie September 12, 2010 at 10:42 am

you look so lovely! envious that you can get away with wearing fake chic glasses :D and that is the perfect comfy chic outfit for running around NYC - i’ve developed a bit of a thing for lacey tops and got myself two lace tees from American Apparel. can’t wait to wear them out to dinner one of these weekends. :)

Hey! I was wearing my Charley 5.0 jeggings to dinner tonight! :) I LOVE mine

Laura Connell September 16, 2010 at 11:42 am

Love those glasses. Very chic look. Hope you had fun at NYFW. It was lovely seeing you again at the IFB Con. I consider you the patron saint of fashion bloggers :)

beautywoome September 17, 2010 at 9:36 am

I used to think jeggings were unflattering but have entirely changed my tune, particularly when you’re looking for something jean-like to wear under boots. I prefer jeggings and tall boots to when girls stuff non-skin-tight jeans into their boots, which just looks awful! It’s the visual equivalent of running fingernails down a blackboard.

Love the red lippy too and the boots. Red lipstick will always pull together a look and boots are made for walking, not teetering around in. Totally agree. There’s a time and place for taxi shoes/boots.
