New York Life, Day One: Autumn Shorts

by jennine on October 13, 2010

vintage fur

We did it. Packed our stuff, shipped it out to New York, and we have arrived. Here I sit, at the hotel,  figuring out the next steps to making this New York dream come true. It’s a beautiful fall day here in the city. Which it’s strange because two weeks ago, it was still hotter than hot, and now it’s really Fall.

I purchased a 1940′s vintage fur at San Francisco boutique, Mystery Mister, in anticipation for the cold winter months coming. I left my camel hair coat at Wendy’s… still have to pick it up! It still really isn’t cold enough to really wear the new vintage find, but it’s a good time to show you that it’s time to start thinking about winter. Last year, in Chicago, I neglected to buy a decent hat until January. It was impossible to find good hats, even at Target, who smartly decided it was the best time to start selling bikinis. When it’s 15°F out!

Last week, I caved at Zara. It’s been a long, long time since I bought anything from that store. And out of boredom, and on my way to check out what JCrew, I stopped in and ended up picking up a tie-front blouse. I have a few  similar blouses like this on standby; a vintage  70′s tie front blouse, and a random 80′s button up. It’s nice to several patterned neutral blouse because they go with everything, and they add a bit of texture to any outfit. Now I have to go out and find a place to live!

Wearing: Vintage Fur Coat: Mystery Mister •  Tie Front Blouse: Zara • Cashmere Tights: Betsey Johnson • Booties: Jeffrey Campbell • Wool Shorts: Courtesy of Bird by Juicy Couture • Bag: Courtesy of Coach • Sunglasses: Prada

haha, i guess! well, i think it has to do with the fact, i’m a navy brat. dad moved us all over the place growing up, so if i have any roots at all, they’re roots on the move.

it’s kind of scary, i have to admit. but it’s going ot be a great adventure no matter what.

Wow! I love NYC! Actually, if it weren’t for the IFB Evolving Influence conference last month, I don’t think I would have ever fallen in love with the city. The people, its style, the weather… I loved it!

Good luck in NYC! See you there one day soon.

Love,

Jess

I really need to get on the faux fur coat bandwagon. The new ones are so expensive — vintage is definitely the way to go. Your outfit looks so sweet and cozy!

How exciting you’ve moved to NYC! Every time I visit the city, it always captivates me, and I have secretly harbored a desire to live there (even for a short time) eventually…

I love your outfit-especially the fantastic fur coat! I scored a gorgeous 1940s fur jacket on Ebay last year (for a song… gotta love Ebay sometimes!) with enormous Joan Crawford shoulders. I only got to wear it once last winter (darn Florida winters!), but it is definitely a traffic stopper. ;)

Hi Jennine!

I’ve always wanted to go to New York. I think it’s amazing. I hope you have a great time there. :) And I think I haven’t told you but your blog inspires me. You inspire me. I also have a fashion blog but it has only been put up recently. It’s called http://themazuona.blogspot.com It’s basically about the style of people in Abu Dhabi and the little things that inspire me here and there. I hope you don’t mind that I linked you up. I really believe that you are a source of inspiration, and the people of Abu Dhabi are missing a lot if they haven’t visited your blog. :)

Cheers to you and your blog! More power! :)
